Message Limits Explained

Daily Limits

  • Free: 50 messages per day (resets once a day)
  • Pro/Scale/Custom: Unlimited daily messages

Monthly Limits

  • Free: 300 messages per month
  • Pro: 5,000 messages per month
  • Scale: 25,000 messages per month
  • Custom: Custom limits based on your needs

The monthly limit counts the messages of the current billing period. On the Free plan, the period starts on the day you signed up. On a paid plan, it starts on the day the plan started. The count resets on that day every month, at the same time of day (UTC). If the month has no such day (the 29th to the 31st), the reset happens on the last day of that month. When you upgrade from the Free plan, a new period starts and the full new allowance is available at once. A change between paid plans keeps the same reset day, and the new limit applies at once. The billing page and the usage cards in the dashboard show the exact reset date. Sent and received messages both count toward the daily and monthly limits.

Per-Batch Limits

Each plan also limits the number of recipients in one bulk send. Your bulk send limit is shown on the billing page in your dashboard. A batch over the limit is rejected as a whole, and nothing is sent.

What Happens When You Exceed Limits?

  • You get an email when you approach your limit, and another when you reach it.
  • The API rejects new sends with HTTP 429. The response body says which limit you reached: daily, monthly or per batch.
  • Rejected messages are not queued. Send them again after the limit resets, or upgrade your plan.
  • Received messages are still stored while you are over the limit. They carry overLimit: true.

To tell a limit error from other send problems, see Messages not sending.

Device Limits

  • Free Plan: 1 active device
  • Pro Plan: Up to 5 active devices
  • Scale Plan: Up to 15 active devices
  • Custom Plan: Unlimited devices

Multiple devices help with:

  • Throughput: Send more messages simultaneously
  • Redundancy: If one device goes offline, you can send from another
  • Load distribution: Distribute message load across devices

API Rate Limits

API requests are rate-limited to protect the service. Sending a very large burst of requests in a short time can return a 429 Too Many Requests response; wait briefly and retry. For normal integrations the limits that matter are your plan's message quotas.

Upgrading Your Plan

To Pro or Scale

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Navigate to "Billing" or "Plans"
  3. Click "Upgrade" on the plan you want
  4. Complete the checkout process
  5. Your plan will be upgraded immediately

Moving from Pro to Scale works the same way; the new limits apply as soon as checkout completes.

From Scale to Custom

  1. Contact sales at sales@textbee.dev
  2. Discuss your requirements
  3. Receive a custom quote
  4. Complete the upgrade process

Custom plans cover higher limits, SLAs, and white-labeling. If what you actually need is engineering help (an integration into your product, a self-hosted deployment, or a bespoke automation), see Services: the team that builds textbee takes on a limited number of client projects.
