What do audiences think of public servcie media? Public service broadcasters often play a very prominent role in countries' news ecosystems. They frequently have the biggest audiences and are among the most trusted news providers. They also frequently find themselves the subject of polarised political debates, particularly around their funding models, their editorial lines and their perception as competitors to commercial news organisations. In this context, a chapter of our Digital News Report 2026 explores attitudes towards the societal impact of news from public service media. In the final episode of our Digital News Report 2026 mini series, author of the chapter Jim Egan, speaks with our director Mitali Mukherjee about how these perceptions vary across the world, how they correlate with trust, engagement and political leaning, and what people say are the positive or negative aspects of public service news in their countries. 📱 Read the chapter in full https://lnkd.in/dkzVdD8p 🇪🇸 Léelo en español https://lnkd.in/eyrM9giu 🎧Listen to our podcast episode with Jim https://lnkd.in/eqk6YAWu Swipe below for 3 insights on this

Coming soon from Trevor Campbell and me: No Embargo. A new podcast featuring a veteran newscaster and a long-time public relations strategist. We decode what makes news and why. We dig deep into issues that affect what we hear and see in the news. Media literacy, narrative strategy, and behind‑the‑scenes truth‑telling from two insiders who unpack how stories develop - honest talk, nothing held back: No Embargo. Here's a taste: What’s next after the death of six radio stations? Trevor and Paul take a deep dive on what could happen next now that six information-oriented radio stations owned by one corporation have been shut down and taken off the air. In some of the affected cities that radio station was the only all-news or news and talk station in the market. As the public outcry builds on social media and local business and municipal leaders recognize the loss, where is the broadcast regulator? The Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission – the CRTC – is silent so far. https://lnkd.in/gtsbCKBm

For years, the corporate spokesperson's job followed a familiar playbook: • Build relationships with journalists • Provide quotable expertise • Stay on corporate message • Secure coverage That playbook no longer exists. Today, executives aren't just trying to secure media coverage – they're competing for attention, credibility and influence in an ecosystem of independent journalists, Substacks, podcasts, YouTube channels and specialist creators. The biggest shift? Credibility is becoming increasingly personal rather than institutional. Our Director, Annabel Kerr, explores the three structural shifts behind this change – and why they make PR more valuable, not less. https://lnkd.in/ddkhxXNc #CorporatePR #MediaRelations #Credibility

Local journalism is one of the most critical pillars of healthy communities, civic engagement, and local democracy. But as traditional newsrooms continue to shrink across Massachusetts and the nation, what takes their place? In the latest episode of The 351, we dive deep into the state of local news with two leading media voices: • Dan Kennedy, journalism professor at Northeastern University & media commentator • Karen Bordeleau, executive editor of The New Bedford Light Together, we explore the rise of nonprofit digital newsrooms, how social media and AI are reshaping the media landscape, and why a strong, transparent relationship between municipal leaders and local reporters matters now more than ever.
