🎙️ Want to start a podcast? Learn from those who've just done it. 🗣️ How can locally rooted content reach the communities it is created for? That question inspired Connected Voices, a podcast developed by Tanda Community Network and International Association of Women in Radio and Television - Kenya with DW Akademie. 📱 In six episodes, the podcast explores how community networks in Kenya are using digital tools to share stories, strengthen cultural identity and make local voices heard. 💡 Along the way, the team gathered plenty of insights about planning, collaboration and production. We've distilled them into 10 practical lessons for podcast makers, whether you're launching your first series or refining your workflow. ➡️ Take a look and let us know: What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from producing a podcast? Or a mistake you made that others should not repeat? https://lnkd.in/eGhVZnWW

I've reached out to hundreds of podcasts for clients to be a guest on over the years, and the approach that worked in 2020 feels outdated now. Inboxes are flooded. Generic pitches get ignored. The people you actually want on your show are getting dozens of requests a week. So I've shifted how I find guests. The best ones rarely come from cold outreach. Here's what's been working: • Ask recent guests who they'd recommend. Warm introductions convert far better than cold pitches. • Look at who's guesting on complementary podcasts. If they're already doing interviews, they're open to more. • Engage with potential guests on social media for a few weeks before reaching out. Comment on their posts. Share their work. When you finally pitch, they recognize your name. • Tap your conference connections. I've booked some of my favorite guests from people I met at Podcast Movement or The Podcast Show. Who's been a favorite podcast guest, and how did you find them?

Have you ever wondered what it looks like inside one of the world’s most influential newsrooms? Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Jodi Kantor gave Laura and Kristina a mini-tour in this week’s episode — from the iconic glass conference rooms to the buildings “nerve center,” where reporters and editors collaborate on some of the paper’s biggest stories. We also asked if they had any spare Pulitzers lying around. They said no. Tour was still cool, though. Jessica Knoll’s advice for writers is simple, but powerful: stop waiting for permission. On the Women in Entertainment podcast, Jessica opens up about what it takes to advocate for yourself in the book-to-screen process. For authors who want to be involved in adapting their work, Jessica says it starts with making that ambition known. Tell your representation. Be clear about what you want. Don’t assume someone else will open the door or offer you a seat at the table. It’s an uncomfortable truth about the #podcast industry. You need big names… If you want people to care about your project, it doesn’t matter that it was an official selection at Tribeca or that Alexi Duggins included in the “best podcasts of the week” at The Guardian, that it was featured multiple times by Apple Podcasts or that Lauren Passell of Tink Media called it one of the best podcasts of the year. NOBODY CARES UNLESA YOU’VE GOT BIG NAMES. So, our indie investigative comedy podcast Jacob Reed and Me teamed up with All Trades Co to get some big names endorsing our show. #podcastmarketing #marketingstunt #celebrity #celebrityendorsement #bignames

Starting over doesn’t erase your experience - it changes how you use it. When Alan Greenstein arrived in Australia in 2009, he knew only 14 or 15 people, most of them family. Decades of experience as a lawyer, banker and leader suddenly meant very little until he proved himself in a new country. Instead of dwelling on what he’d left behind, Alan focused on what he could build next. For every migrant, leader or entrepreneur facing a fresh start, this is a reminder that reinvention isn’t about beginning from zero - it’s about applying everything you’ve learned in a completely new context. 🎥 Watch this clip from Episode 31 of A Stranger, A Suitcase, & A Story or catch the full episode wherever you get your podcasts. You’d think the videos that take the most planning would hit the hardest. In our conversation with Ileana Garcia, the creator behind Illy in the Streets on TikTok, she told me it’s actually the opposite. The moment she tries to script something out and teach a lesson, it doesn’t land. The content that actually resonates with her 50,000+ followers is the unscripted version: she shows up, talks it through, and lets it be real. It’s a useful reminder for anyone building an audience or a brand. Polish isn’t always the goal. Authenticity is. Parts 1 and 2 with Ileana are live now on YouTube and wherever you listen to podcasts!
