I had the privilege of contributing to the Hausa translation of Community Journalism in Fragile Contexts: A Contemporary Reporting Guide. Developed by HumAngle Foundation, with support from the @Netherlands in Nigeria, this guide is designed to strengthen community journalism in Nigeria: especially in conflict-affected areas where sensitive reporting is vital to vulnerable populations. It is filled with practical knowledge and real-life experiences that can help not just students but also community journalists to carry out impactful reporting in today’s challenging environment. The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) has entered into a strategic media partnership with African Newspage to amplify the conversation around Africa’s integration, free movement, and the continent’s single market agenda. The Embassy is proud to support the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development as it launches the Local Media Sustainability Fund (LMSF). This initiative will support at least 100 local and community media organisations across West Africa. Congratulations to the first cohort of seven Nigerian newsrooms that have been selected for this feat: Development Reporting, FastMatterNG, Development News Network, Confiance News, Inside the Niger Delta, EduGist, and Sapientia International Media Centre. Beyond grants for public-interest reporting, each newsroom will receive three months of intensive capacity building in financial management, revenue diversification, audience growth, and governance.
