The African Diaspora’s Game-Changing News Hub: How One Filmmaker Built the Platform We’ve Been Waiting For We talk about an incredible filmmaker who moved to the States in 2024 and created a free AI-powered media hub called Afro Diaspo—the first credible news platform designed specifically for Africans home and abroad. She realized that global Africans were drowning in scattered information and missing crucial news about home, so she combined her journalism degree and filmmaking expertise to build a one-stop hub for entertainment, politics, business news, and African market insights. We discuss how she’s interviewing African business owners and turning those conversations into powerful articles, how the platform has already attracted 24,000 visitors in 90 days, and how they’re now giving back to the community by offering free permanent features for 10 African business owners in the diaspora. #AfricaDiaspora #AfrodiaspoHub #AfricanBusiness #DiasporaNews #africanentrepreneur

Independent journalism plays a critical role in helping us understand how harmful narratives emerge, spread and shape our societies. International Women's Media Foundation's new Fault Lines Reporting Fund will support investigative reporting on the forces driving racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, misogyny and other forms of intolerance in the United States. The fund will provide grants to staff and freelance journalists, as well as reporting teams, investigating how these narratives take hold, the impacts they have on communities, and the efforts underway to counter them. Applications are open on a rolling basis. Learn more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e4E2EcTs #IndependentJournalism #Media #InvestigativeJournalism #Democracy

Investigative journalism has changed dramatically across Africa over the last decade. What was once often carried out by isolated reporters has become a far more collaborative, data-driven, and digitally enabled form of public-interest reporting. Today, journalists are using financial records, open-source intelligence, satellite imagery, cross-border networks, and citizen tips to uncover stories that shape public life and hold institutions to account. But the profession is also facing new pressures, from legal intimidation and digital surveillance to disinformation and the growing challenge of AI-generated content. In our latest article, we explore how investigative journalism has reshaped Africa’s media landscape, strengthened accountability, and changed the relationship between citizens and power. https://ow.ly/JBQv50ZvSC9 Because speaking truth to power is not only about exposing wrongdoing. It is about protecting the public’s right to know. Cowork. Connect. Create. #NairobiGarage #InvestigativeJournalism #AfricaUncensored #Media #Accountability #PublicInterestJournalism #Leadership

In a world of growing disinformation and distrust, where more than 75% of countries lack a free press, access to trusted information has never been more important. Working with more than 400 media partners, BBC Media Action reaches nearly 100 million people each year across more than 30 countries and over 50 languages, training and supporting local journalism and storytelling to change lives. “For some time, Media Action has had a really important role in bringing truth and information to parts of the world where there's no free press,” says BBC Tech Presenter, Lara Lewington. Strong, independent media helps communities make informed decisions and hold power to account. “At a time when the whole idea of truth and truthful reporting is under siege, they do great stuff in training journalists,” says BBC News International Editor, Jeremy Bowen.
