Proud to see the International Media Studies (IMS) program contributing to conversations on global challenges beyond the university classroom. 🌍 This April, students Adriana de Sousa Figueiredo and Dalila Sherif joined the jury of Engagement Global gGmbH's school competition on development policy. The competition's theme was "Facts checked? Change the world with your story!" and student groups from across Germany had submitted different formats ranging from videos and podcasts to websites and games. Along other jurors, Adriana and Dalila got to award more than €50,000  of prize money – and the kids' and youths' ideas made a lasting impression on them. Would you try this? If yes, what topics would you want to discuss? The "Unpopular Ride" brings strangers with opposing views together on a tram ride. The mission: listen, discuss and understand each other before the final stop. The project is one example of how young journalists in the Western Balkans are reconnecting across borders through innovative media projects. It was developed through the "NextGen Media Lab," an initiative under the "Innovation. Media. Minds." program funded by the European Union and managed by the Goethe-Institut e.V. in collaboration with DW Akademie. Cross-border collaboration does more than create media projects. It breaks bubbles, builds understanding and reminds young people that they are not alone, as one of Unpopular Ride's creators, journalist Antonela Martinovic from RTCG - Radio Televizija Crne Gore said: "We realized how similar our problems actually are, no matter where we come from. Will public-service media be able to turn their most valuable asset – trustworthy reporting – into bargaining power against AI companies? At "Festival 3i" in Rio de Janeiro, Associação de Jornalismo Digital - Ajor and DW Akademie held a workshop on that question. Focusing on contemporary culture, digital trends, social issues and stories shaping everyday life, Lejla creates engaging television content while managing journalist teams and overseeing all stages of production.
