At the 7th ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26) in Abuja, AFRINIC Board Chairman Prof. Adewole Adedokun called on African governments to work more closely with AFRINIC by supporting IPv6 readiness, strengthening Internet governance, and advancing secure Internet infrastructure. AFRINIC is in Kampala, working with partners to equip engineers with the practical skills needed to accelerate IPv6 deployment and strengthen Uganda's Internet infrastructure. Advancing a more secure, resilient, and future-ready Internet across the continent.

🎉 I’m excited to share that I have successfully earned the Certified IPv6 Engineer (Silver) certification! Over the past three days, I had the opportunity to enhance my knowledge of IPv6 through an insightful and hands-on training program, gaining valuable skills that will support my growth as a Network Engineer. A heartfelt thank you to Technology Service Providers Association Of Kenya (TESPOK) and AFRALTI for hosting the training, and to the AFRINIC-The Regional Internet Registry for Africa team for delivering such an excellent program. Uganda’s transition to the next generation of the Internet will require more than technical awareness. It will take supportive policies, prepared public infrastructure, clear sector expectations and network operators who can turn readiness into real deployment. Today, the IPv6 Certification & Technical Training Programme opens with a high-level panel discussion themed “Accelerating IPv6 Adoption in Uganda: Skills, Certification, Deployment and the Road Ahead.” The discussion will feature Amos Mpungu from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Deborah Agumeneitwe from NITA-U, Michael Bamwesigye from the Uganda Communications Commission and Patrick Okui, Senior Network Engineer at Workonline Communications. Together, they will explore the policy and institutional barriers affecting IPv6 adoption, the readiness of government ICT infrastructure, the role of sector standards and assessments, and the practical journey from network readiness to successful real-world deployment. From 13–17 July 2026, AFRINIC partnered with Technology Service Providers Association Of Kenya (TESPOK) to equip Internet professionals with hands-on IPv6 skills that will support the continued growth and resilience of Africa's Internet.
