Importance of a well documented network
A well documented network is not just good practice, it’s the difference between chaos and control. In my recent FTTH deployment, I made it a priority to document every stage: • Network design and planning • Outdoor FDT cabinet construction • Proper mounting and fiber splicing • Clean server room setup with Mikrotik Router,Huawei OLT racked, patched, and configured • Solar backup integration for reliability Each step wasn’t just about execution ,it was about visibility, scalability, and future troubleshooting. Too often, networks are built and left undocumented. Months later, even simple maintenance becomes a guessing game. A clear, well labeled design saves time, reduces downtime, and makes handovers seamless. Funny enough, this reminds me of something we were all examined in schools especially across Africa;with a well labeled diagrams explain..... Back then it felt like extra work, but in the real world, that habit is exactly what separates average deployments from professional ones. Documentation is not paperwork. It’s part of the network.
