TSIA2 Review Queue

TSIA2 Review Queue is a small Ruby utility for turning practice results into a short, prioritized review plan. It is designed for learners who already have a set of answered questions and want a consistent way to decide what to revisit first. The code does not scrape test material, reproduce proprietary questions, or predict a score. It simply ranks user-supplied review items by confidence, recency, and whether the answer was correct.

Why a review queue helps

A long list of mistakes can encourage random rereading. A queue makes the next action explicit. Incorrect answers with low confidence should usually be revisited before correct answers with high confidence. A correct answer that came from guessing can still deserve attention, while an older, well-understood item can wait.

This package uses three transparent signals:

  1. Accuracy: incorrect items receive the largest priority increase.
  2. Confidence: low-confidence items move upward even when the answer was correct.
  3. Recency: recently attempted items receive a small boost so the learner can reconstruct the reasoning while it is still fresh.

The output is a ranking, not a diagnosis. Learners should still compare their work with official TSIA2 learning objectives and their institution's advising guidance.

Example

require_relative "lib/tsi_review_queue"

items = [
  { topic: "linear equations", correct: false, confidence: 2, days_ago: 0 },
  { topic: "main idea", correct: true, confidence: 1, days_ago: 1 },
  { topic: "ratios", correct: true, confidence: 4, days_ago: 6 }
]

queue = TsiReviewQueue.rank(items)
queue.each { |item| puts "#{item[:topic]}: #{item[:priority]}" }

The result keeps the calculation visible. That makes it easy to adjust the inputs, explain the order to a tutor, or compare two study sessions without pretending the number is an official score.

A practical review loop

Start with the first two or three topics in the queue. For each topic:

  • write one sentence describing the rule or reasoning move;
  • solve one representative example without notes;
  • explain why each rejected answer or method fails;
  • record a confidence value from 1 to 5;
  • add the new result to the next queue.

Stop when accuracy and explanation quality improve, not merely when a timer expires. Short, deliberate passes are usually easier to evaluate than one unfocused block.

Input contract

Each item must provide a topic, a Boolean correct value, a confidence integer from 1 through 5, and a nonnegative days_ago value. Invalid input raises ArgumentError rather than silently producing a misleading priority.
