"Decathlon, the store that sends all its customers outside." That line was on a patch in our first stores, fifty years ago. It still holds. Today it lives in an app. Decathlon Outdoor takes you from your front door to the end of the trail. More than 115,000 routes across Europe. Free, every single one. Free for the person who has walked mountains for thirty years. Free for the person going out for the first time on Sunday. Free for the parent looking for a path their child can finish. That last one matters most. A user told us the app helped her find walks she could do with her son, for whom the effort itself is already a victory. Last year, people shared 225,000 photos on the app so that others could find the same spots. Our purpose is to bring people together through sport to make wellbeing accessible for all. Sometimes that means a store. Sometimes it means a free map.

After 1 year and 2 months as a Part-Time Sport Advisor at Decathlon, I’ve decided to conclude this chapter as I shift my focus toward my university commitments, competitive sports, rehabilitation, and upcoming internship journey. Working at Decathlon gave me much more than retail experience. It provided valuable insight into the sports business industry from customer service and product knowledge to teamwork, communication, and understanding how a global sports retailer operates. Most importantly, it strengthened my passion for helping people through sport. I’m grateful to my managers, teammates, and everyone I had the opportunity to work with. Thank you for the support, guidance, and memories throughout this journey. From a File on My Desk to a Full-Circle Legacy: My Journey as Decathlon Malaysia’s First Employee 🇲🇾 In 2015, I was serving as an Assistant Director at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority. It was a regular day until my director walked over, handed me a brand-new file, and said, "Maziah, I want you to be the account manager for this." The name on the file? Decathlon. That was the exact moment my world shifted. As the account manager, my job was to assist this global sports giant with their official entry into the Malaysian market. I vividly remember the first time I sat down with their CEO and Expansion Director. Listening to them speak, getting to know them, and understanding the brand's vision, I didn’t just see a company—I saw a culture I wanted to be a part of. As someone who loved being active and sporty, it felt like fate. I fell so deeply in love with their mission that by December 2015, I made a leap of faith. I left the government sector and officially joined the team. At just 24 years old, I became Decathlon Malaysia’s very first local employee, stepping in as their Expansion Manager. Back then, it was an exhilarating, beautifully chaotic challenge. We were building the foundations from the ground up. I poured my heart into the brand for two years before moving on to explore new horizons in 2017. But you never truly stop rooting for the foundations you helped pour. Fast forward to today, a decade later. I’ve watched Decathlon’s meteoric rise across Malaysia with immense pride. They’ve grown from a bold new market entry into a beloved household name—expanding so rapidly that they even opened and expanded a store right in my own township. And now, my relationship with the brand has come beautifully full circle. Today, I am a mother, and my two-year-old son is utterly obsessed with Decathlon. It is his absolute favorite place to go. If you walked into my house right now, you’d think we were a warehouse—he has collected nearly 100 sports balls from there! Walking through the aisles recently, I caught sight of their anniversary poster, and a wave of pure nostalgia hit me. I stood there looking at how far this brand has come, thinking about that file on my desk in 2015, and feeling incredibly proud of the historic role I played in bringing this establishment to life in my country. Decathlon will always feel like my corporate baby—and now, my actual baby is falling in love with it, too. Who knows? Maybe he’ll carry on the legacy and work there one day. Betul ke baru-baru ni viral pasal hiring process Decathlon susah? Heheh. Just a little throwback to 2023, my era of balancing studies with a part-time job as a Decathlon Sports Advisor! Masa interview dulu, memang berpeluh nak jawab soalan interviewer sebab soalan yang ditanya agak tactical. Tapi alhamdulillah, managed to secure the role and placed exactly where I wanted to be (read: Customer Service). Even after getting the job, passing the probation period was another challenging hurdle. But honestly? The experience, the benefits, and the pay made it all absolutely worth it. YTJT perks as DECA STAFF macam mana. To be honest, every time takde class, I genuinely looked forward to my shifts. Rasa excited sangat nak masuk kerja. Decathlon is more than just a workplace, every single day is a learning process. Belajar macam-macam pasal sports retail. The culture was amazing, from the Store Leader down to the teammates, everyone was incredibly helpful, making teamwork so much fun. I am very proud to have worked with such a great crowd. Huge shoutout to my Store Leader (IOI MALL PUTRAJAYA) at the time, Nency. Operation Leader, Iman (He's in JB now) and my fantastic teammates Amani, Aina, and Raep. Not sure if you guys are still with Decathlon, but I hope everyone is doing great!
