The ECB's latest Bank Lending Survey shows that European banks are becoming more cautious about who they lend to, driven by geopolitical uncertainty and growing concerns about economic risks. 🏦 Key takeaways: 🎯 Selective lending: Credit standards tightened further for businesses and consumers across the Euro area, driven by geopolitical uncertainty and economic risk. Germany, France, and Spain raised approval bars for business credit, while Italy stood out as the sole major economy to ease them. 🎯 Diverging loan demand: Consumer credit showed resilience with a minimal 2 % dip holding stronger than mortgage demand, which plunged 15 % while business loans unexpectedly rose 3 %  driven by working capital needs. 🎯 Tighter access to funding: Access to retail and wholesale funding both deteriorated in Q2 2026. Savers are harder to attract and short- and long-term deposits harder to attain. Wholesale funding faced milder pressure, with money markets and debt securities both deteriorating slightly. Securitisation was the one bright spot, holding broadly stable. 👉 Looking forward: Borrowing across Europe will remain tough as banks double down on risk management. This will impact both businesses and consumers with lower approval rates, even as consumer loan demand stabilizes. The only winners? Savers. "Pride is about celebrating survival and appreciating those who courageously fought for our civil rights. It’s about building a community that is strong and joyful enough to continue that fight for generations to come. I am incredibly grateful for those who have advocated for the freedom to love. True pride means honoring that lineage by not becoming complacent with the victories already won." 🤝 What progress and challenges does the LGBTQAI+ community face today? "We have made tangible progress; being jokingly cruel has become significantly less socially accepted. Today, someone's sexual orientation or gender identity is rarely allowed to be the butt of a joke without pushback. However, many still target LGBTQAI+ individuals, immigrants, or other vulnerable groups. Until people feel safe to interact with the world, they can’t fully acknowledge themselves." 😇 What has most inspired you to be your authentic self? "My moment of self-realization came from an unexpected place: a book in my seventh-grade classroom titled ‘A Great and Terrible Beauty’ that depicted a lesbian character gently and authentically as the protagonist’s friend instead of as a villain. Coming from a very strict, traditional religious background where my only exposure to queer people was seeing them actively protested against, this perspective completely shifted my worldview. It helped me feel safe looking inward at who I am. " 💬 Which proverb would you like to share with us? "There is a powerful line from Star Wars that functions as a personal mantra for me: Yoda says, "We are what they grow beyond." This captures how I try to live my life and how I view systemic progress, acknowledging that every generation does its absolute best and the next generation should do even better. Our job is to set the youth up for ultimate success and celebrate the opportunities they have that we didn't. This philosophy fits perfectly into the essence of Pride. So many people sacrificed their safety working toward a better future, and we honor them by building upon their foundation to make the world safer and more equitable for those who come after us." From the pitch to the classroom: Matchworn jerseys are funding the next generation of learners in Neukölln. ⚽️🏫 As the main sponsor of 1. FC Union Berlin, we believe true partnership means delivering value both on the pitch and in our local communities. We recently auctioned a selection of matchworn Union jerseys via eBay. And yesterday, we met with representatives of Otto-Hahn-Schule in Neukölln to officially hand over the proceeds via Union Stiftung. The proceeds will be utilised in providing students with the tools they need to excel. 📚🎒 To reinforce this commitment, we are also offering the school two individual sessions on financial literacy led by our Raisin experts.
