Film reaches people in powerful ways. A story on screen cuts through noise and polarization, creating a moment in which complex issues become human and shared. And when the credits roll, questions emerge, reflections begin, and people speak with one another – especially when stories are rooted in local reality.

But filmmakers in Global Majority countries face systemic barriers: underfunded training systems, limited production support and infrastructure, and distribution channels that rarely reach local communities. Working closely with partner organizations across Africa, Latin America and beyond, DW Akademie sought to address these gaps along the entire pipeline of film creation.

The publication Film for Dialogue: Stories that inspire change takes readers inside DW Akademie’s film project. It shows how DW Akademie and its partners strengthened local industries, broadened audience access and enabled authentic stories to travel — locally and internationally.

It is both a record of results and an invitation to explore how film can drive dialogue, while coordinated efforts strengthen the resilience of film sectors.
