When I try to use visual.graphics module I get an error message:

Runtime Error!
Program: C\Python26\pythonw.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I tried to pinpoint the occurence of this error with the Debugger by tracking into function calls that makes troble.
I ran the example code "graphtest.py" in "C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\visual\examples\".
Here's what I see in the debug control before going another step to get the error:

'bdb'.run(), line 368:exec cmd in globals, locals
'visual.graph',<module>(), line 8: oscillation = gdisplay(xtitle='Time', ytitle='Response')
'visual.graph',__init__(), line 193: self.axisdisplay(axis, axissign)
'visual.graph',axisdisplay(), line 258: font=graphfont, xoffset=tminor, opacity=0, box=0, line=0)
> 'visual.primitives',__init__(), line 69: self.__display.add_renderable(self)

The Local variables at this point were:
_other        None
keywords  {'box':0, 'opacity':0, 't... 'font': '', 'xoffset':5,0}
self            <visual.primitives.label object at 0x0147BF00>

(hundreds of globals I cannot capture or type them out here)

This was as far as I could go.
Can I get some help how to fix the error?
Thanks in advance.

make fails

make fails for me and says:

and prints a lot of other errors. My system is linux and the version is visual-4.beta26. I tracked the issue down to be in the configure script which fails to find the right PYTHON_PREFIX under linux:

if test $PYTHON_PLATFORM = "win32"; then
PYTHON_PREFIX=`$PYTHON -c "from distutils import sysconfig; print sysconfig.PREFIX"`

PYTHON_EXEC_PREFIX=`$PYTHON -c "from distutils import sysconfig; print sysconfig.EXEC_PREFIX"`

PYTHON_PREFIX='${prefix}'

PYTHON_EXEC_PREFIX='${exec_prefix}'

changing the first line to
if test $PYTHON_PLATFORM = "win32" -o test $PYTHON_PLATFORM = "win32"; then
works for me. I don't know however why autoconf doesn't do this itself.

Python on Mac OS X Leopard

VPython needs the following LDFLAGS entry for compiling on Leopard:

LDFLAGS="-framework OpenGL -dylib_file /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib:/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib"

This gets around a documented bug-feature in Leopard where the OpenGL libraries are installed in a different place from previous versions.

In the fink info file for visual-py24 this can be achieved by adding an appropriate export LDFLAGS line to the info file.

label distance from camera not quite right

Hi,
I've observed that the z-ind computation of a label's distance from the camera (and subsequently which label appears in front) isn't quite right.
Please see example code (it's work on an interactive tree builder)

Thanks for the really awesome project. Exactly what I needed,
Out[2]: '1.0.1'
Python 2.4.4, Fedora Core 6 updated.

A segfault is reliably produced when running vpython along with pylab / matplotlib functions:

cut------------------------------------------
from visual import *
from pylab import *

plot(x,y)
cut ------------------------------------------

Remvoving _either_ the visual sphere call _or_ the pylab plot call eliminates the segfault

RuntimeError: boost::bad_weak_ptr when running graphtest.py

Using Ubuntu 6.06 (python2.4) I get the following
traceback :

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "graphtest.py", line 8, in ?
oscillation = gdisplay(xtitle='t', ytitle='Response')
File
"/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/visual/graph.py",
line 192, in __init__    currentdisplay.select()
RuntimeError: boost::bad_weak_ptr

Out of curiosity I examined graph.py.

From what I can see the currentdisplay is initialised
from the display from a test sphere which is created
and subsequently destroyed.

test = sphere(visible=0)
currentdisplay = test.display
test = None # discard test sphere

Uncommenting the test = None , "fixes" the failure.

From what I assume is that on discarding the test
sphere, the pointer to the display is also getting hosed.

replacing the code above with :

currentdisplay = display.get_selected()

Also fixes the problem, in a similar way as the
controls.py package.

Now the only reason to get the currentdisplay is to
select afterwards. Since selecting the selected display
seems a bit superfluous, I tried what it would do when
removing all references to currentdisplay : works fine.
