Air racers Denise Waters and Ruth Maestre, winners of the 2000 Air Race Classic, continue to team up for major air races.

2006 Air Race Classic

In June, 2006, Denise and Ruth placed second as Team #1 in the 2006 Air Race Classic, June 20-23. This route was from Mesa, Arizona, through Texas and the Midwest to Menominee, Michigan. See the flight log for details.

2005 Air Race Classic

In June, 2005, Denise and Ruth finished seventh as Team #8 in the 2005 Air Race Classic, June 21-24. This year's route is 2,116 nm starting and ending at Purdue University Airport in Lafayette, Indiana. See the flight log for details.

2004 Air Race Classic

Denise and Ruth placed seventh the 2004 Air Race Classic, June 23-26. The route was 2,586 nm starting and ending in Wichita, Kansas. See the flight log for details.

2003 Air Race Classic

In June, 2003, Denise and Ruth placed third in the 2003 Air Race Classic. See the flight log for details.

2002 Air Race Classic

In June, 2002, the pair flew the Air Race Classic from Silver City, New Mexico, to Chesapeake, Virginia. See Denise's comments at the start of the race.

2001 London to Sydney Air Race

Denise and Ruth flew the London to Sydney Air Race 2001 in March and April, 2001. Flying what became known as the "Kangaroo Route to Down Under," they followed the flight path of the pioneers of one of the world's most famous air routes. Denise and Ruth joined dozens of other international teams in various types of aircraft.

The contestants left Biggin Hill Aerodrome near London, England, on March 11 and arrived in Sydney 28 days later. Race stops along the way include airports in France, Greece, Egypt, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Pakistan, India, Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia.

The women kept a flight log on this site with words and pictures as the race progressed.

Bios

Denise Waters holds a Commercial Pilot, Instrument license for Single and Multi-Engine aircraft, and an A&P License. She has won two consecutive Air Race Classics and placed well other air races. more>>

Ruth Maestre holds a Private Pilot license and a multi-engine rating. An Air Traffic Controller since 1984, Ruth was honored as Volunteer of the Year at the 1996 WIAI Conference. more>>
