And all other applications are still able to find the documents folder? Because NSIS just uses a standard windows shell api to get the path

You probably use function SHGetSpecialFolderPath/SHGetSpecialFolderLocation. I too used this function in my application. But when I have replaced it on SHGetFolderPath the error has disappeared. It is an error proves only on Windows Vista (including SP1). Probably it is a bug of system or its any feature. :)

NSIS uses SHGetFolderPath when it's available. This works fine for me on Vista. Are you using the latest version of NSIS?

How do you change that directory? Are you doing it directly in the registry?

  • Alexander Kozlovich

No. I have changed it through documents folder properties.

Have you tried this on more than one Vista computer? Do you know if it's specific to SP0/SP1? When I try it on my Vista machine, it just works for me.

Yes. On this error to me has informed one of my users, at which Vista SP1.
I too have checked up and at me this error too has appeared (without SP1).

Well, problem was Vista failing with CSIDL_FLAG_CREATE on root directories and caching the result. Fixed for next version.
