idiot's guide to rotting at home

thursday morning it's all coming to a close. the chapters that have been written about my life in NP. 3 years have gone by in a flash. thank God for everything, good and bad - one of the more heartbreaking 'streaks' i've had: 3 different girls. 3 different years (academic year that is). 3 heartbreaks. haha. looking back at it now. it's kinda funny in a way. but the worst one hit when it happened in year 1. shank will know what happened. boy was it painful. life goes on. Open House 2006 and VIVA presentation beckons this coming weeks. then comes Prom Night 2006 and hopefully my Melbourne trip for the Australian Floorball Open with najib, mr sani, pierre and whoever else will make up the team that SFA wants us to form and go across. and then. the final milestone of my NP journey: graduation ceremony. enjoy that for a bit and i'm sure the nice little letter with the words "Ministry of Defense; Private and Confidential" on the front will arrive. off with the hair and fats then.

it's been a great ride in NP, especially since the day i joined eGarage. all my best pals are from there. shaun ben shuren shank ivan fengnan wenru and patricia. wonderful friends. wonderful times. all the competitions we've all taken part in. Wireless Java Jam (and the 'scandal' that never was). Imagine Cup. Office Skills Challenge. and now, World Skills Singapore and World Skills (International). it's fair to say that we all achieved nearly to our fullest potentials in year 2 and 3. when we were smart enough to get around the school system of rules and regulations (-sneaky grin-). when we made friends with our lecturers and even got one or two of them to buy us alcohol. haha. going on overseas trips. india being the highlight of my 3 years in NP. how it opened my eyes to the world. of course. there's still 0315. the class that i was assigned to. i'm not really sorry or regretful that i'm not as close to them as i am with the eGarage guys and girls. either way. they're still my friends and i acknowledge the help that they've given me (however slight). ming yao will always be my mentor/gaming partner/counsellor/project mate. perhaps he's the only one i can really relate to in my whole class. sometimes it seems like the rest of them are plain. well. blank. and i hate it. i hate it when people can't be serious. when people blame you for their own inadequacies. maybe that's why i never did get close with my classmates. hah. (food for thought ain't it?)

that aside. i think i've done pretty well academically. GPA of 3+ out of 4. well. above average it may be. but whether or not it's enough to see me through to uni is another question. i definitely do not want to go the overseas route unless absolutely necessary. problem now is for me to decide what is it that i want to do. what is it that gives me that 'kick' in life. sports? teaching? do i want to stay in the IT sector? mass comm maybe? i don't know. i really don't. perhaps that's why NS is a good thing. officership and i'll sign on. no doubts about it.

floorball. hah. funny how i got into the sport in the first place. played ice hockey for about 4 months plus before i stopped because of injury. granted i wasn't really a good hockey player (i could only shoot. not more not less). played floorball in sec 5 during PE (wow. haven't used that term in a while) and got hooked. helped to start up the floorball club in St Gabriel's and that's it. off i went to poly. i knew from then on that i wanted to play floorball. (un)fortunately. i joined as the only one. as in. i didnt join with a group of friends. i was alone. the seniors (jason vasan ryan weiren tim and hongzhen) made life more comfortable for me, taking me under their wings. it was all better when najib and imran came into the picture. people whom i'll forever be greatful for helping kickstart my passion for the game. did i repay them enough? i hope so. scoring the only goal in the 04/05 season for NP. scoring the equalising goals against tazsilian (penalty shootout) and ite, both in the semis. maybe my goal returns isn't enough. but i think i've done more than my fair share of work both for NPFB and FC Squirrels.

how i'm going to miss school. the friends. the ups and downs. the food maybe (hah!). the memories, those that make me smile, those that bring tears to my eyes. i'll never forget them. i'll always cherish them all..

wednesday afternoon IVP 2005/06. how it all ended yesterday. drew 3-3 with RP but lost out on penalties. seems like somehow NP and even back in FC Squirrels, we've got a bad streak going for us during penalties. we played well. fantastic even. how we defended when we were two-players down towards the end.

as a whole, NP in a way has exceeded expectations, not in terms of our final position, but in terms of the results we've got. wins against SIM and SP, drawing with NTU and RP and the sole lost to NYP. up till yesterday, we've been the only team to hold NTU to a draw. the one game which i think sums up what NPFB is all about: team spirit. granted we may not have as much technical skills as others but one thing is for sure, we work our socks off for one another. so purely from a results point of view, 6th placing isnt all that bad.

it's been a great pleasure to play alongside brandon hilmi rafiz karthik nanda alvin and boon in line 1. i think i played my best yesterday, a couple of runs down the flanks, tracking back to defend even though i was caught off-guard with RP's first goal. my fault. damnit. however i look at it, brandon and zak's got it right. i'm not fully recovered from dengue. and sorry zhao. i cant put down floorball for 6 months because by then i'll be serving the nation. i guess one assist in the whole IVP is an ok statistic. haha. expected at least one or two more but hell. doesn't really matter now. i'll be back in IVP. question is, would it be for NTU or NUS? or even SMU? we'll see..

sunday morning time check: 2.59am. i've just completed my final year project report. sending them over to ivan for printing now. the end is near. how bright the light at the end of the tunnel! =D

anyway. quick update about ivp. won SP 4-2 but it wasnt enough to put us through to the semis. NYP lost to NTU 1-2 in a game where they had to win to help us go through on goal difference.
the mid-week game against NTU was a thriller. came back from 2-0 down to draw it 2-2 with 2 goals from brandon. haha! anyhow. 5th/6th placing game on tuesday against RP. won't be easy. just looking forward to my MS Floorball game against ITE. hehs.

FREEDOM IS NEAR!

tuesday morning 2 games 2 loses:
league: Skools Floorball should have won easily against Pasirians. but NOoOoOo. we chose to hit the post 9 times instead of hitting the back of the net. lost 5-4. Genesis ITE next on sunday. hoho. another tough one to crack
IVP: lost a hard fought game. played well but still room for improvement. i figure wed's mission: impossible for us but we'll have to make it. NP 2 NYP 3. i think we gave them a run for their money

anyways. official graduation's set for 14th June. hope i'm not serving the nation just yet.
rest.
need loads of it.
someone pray for my line too. 4 of the 6 players are injured including myself. shits.

tuesday morning 2 games in 2 days. woah. i hope i'm not over exerting myself especially since i'm still on the road to recovery. anyway. made my debut in div 1. did very well. could have scored a hat-trick if it weren't for 3 lucky saves by the goalie (grrr..)
ivp has started. first game was against SIM. was down 1-0 after a defender's error. so we (my line that is) let in the first goal. was feeling quite "bleah" about that. but we made good on our promise to emily to get back a goal. 6 min 59 sec into the 2nd period i won a free hit for us. set up brandon who did a spin shot from the halfway line. 8 minutes later fahmi scored. 4 minutes later. goal of the tournament so far. brandon. hoho.yazid threw the ball straight through the center for brandon.. he then chipped the goalie with 1 or 2 defenders chasing him down. fantastic man. feel damn proud to play with him. kenneth then scored with 3 min left to go. somehow his shot hit the goalie's leg and slipped in. none of us knew it was a goal until widya blew for it. we were like "what the fuck? hahahahaha! goal!"
anyway. i know i didnt perform up to expectations today. too stagnant. need to be more mobile. hais.. feel damn disappointed even though i got one assist. bleah. run run run! =\

wednesday morning new speakers! harmon/kardon soundsticks II. it rocks. really. my table's shaking my floor's vibrating and my shelves are rattling. boy oh boy do i love the sound that's coming outta the 8 small speakers (4 per "stick")

anyhows. a song for the new year:

Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days

And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again

And it's someplace simple where we could live
And something only you can give
And thats faith and trust and peace while we're alive
And the one poor child that saved this world
And there's 10 million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again

I wish everyone was loved tonight
And somehow stop this endless fight
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cuz everyone is forgiven now
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again
Cuz tonight's the night the world begins again
