"Fairy Camp"

While the boys did basketball camp in June, Avery did "Fairy Camp". You would have thought that all of her dreams came true when I asked her if she wanted to do "Fairy Camp".  Oh the squeels of delight. The jumping up and down. The happy dance and then the "I can't believe this is really happening to me. Yes, yes, yes!"  The boys just stared at her in disbelief and chuckled to themselves about how crazy town she was.

The tutus, the fairy wings, the necklaces, the headbands, the bracelets and even parasols made this ballet camp so much fun to be a girl.
She learned all the french words for the ballet movements and would come home saying them and practicing them.  At the end she earned her banner that she wore proudly and begged to do more ballet when it was all over.

Basketball Camp

The boys did basketball camp again this summer.  They both vetoed swim team and needed some form of summer exercise without being in the sweltering heat so Basketball Camp became our outlet.  We tried out Desert Ridge Basketball camp instead of Red Mountain's that we did last year.  I was much more impressed with the Desert Ridge camp and the boys said hands down they liked it better.  I think getting your own t-shirt, basketball and treats every day helped sway them.  Trey's camp was in the late morning then we would come home to eat lunch and then head back to Logan's camp.  It was time consuming that's for sure but worth it.
The group Trey was in was 3rd to 5th graders.  Trey is just going into 3rd grade so he was by far one of the littlest guys on the court.  The basketball standard stayed at normal height which is a long way up the further down you are.  I love that Trey is undaunted by outside influences.  He does his thing and could care less if he misses the basket every time or if everyone else is twice his size.  He surprised me with his shooting abilities and made a lot of baskets.  Overall he did great and really improved in his coordination and shooting ability.
This shot went in!
Logan had a great time and loved all the crazy drills and contests that they did.  He was a little shocked when he won the free throw competition for his age group.  It's fun to see him get in on the action and take more chances as his confindence in the game improves.
That tongue of his is constantly in his cheek when he concentrates.
He takes the ball down the court, he shoots and he scooooores!
It was a great experience, a lot of growth and a great camp.  But....I couldn't talk them into another session.  They pinky promised me next year.

May Crazies

I think it's a toss up between May and December over which month is busier.  They both seem so crazy with end of the year ceremonies, performances, birthdays etc.  I was still hoping that the next day I would wake up and not be sick but such was not the case although I could feel it easing up and was able to be some what productive.  May was a blur and a busy one for all of us but especially Avery.  She finished her little Hip-Hop class and had her performance.
She sang her little heart out in the Kindergarten musical.  Boy did she get into those performances.  Sometimes I wonder where this child of mine came from.
And we parted ways and said goodbyes to the most fabulous teachers ever this year.  Teachers are my heroes and we really lucked out this year with getting some good ones that helped not only educate but mold and shape my children and their lives.  Avery loved Mrs. Pemberton and so did we.  We recently saw her at Costco and before I knew it Avery took off running to give her a big hug.
There was parties, field trips, awards, celebrations and on and on. Avery celebrated her 6th birthday on the last day of school.  I am in serious denial that she is that old.  I picked the kids up from school and we headed to Mesquite Groves to go swimming.  We had never been there before but had heard great things about it and Avery wanted to go there more than anything else...even Build-a-Bear.
We came home after to open presents and have pizza and strawberry birthday cake per her request.
She struck this pose all on her own.  Watch out Price is Right ladies.
We are still going on months of coloring with this playhouse.  As you can see they have all loved coloring and playing with it.  More than I thought they would.

I am so in love with Avery and am so grateful for her.  As my dad always says "she's a doozey".  She is such a blessing in our family.  She can be so girly but can definitely hold her own with the boys and has been known to out wrestle and out eat her older brothers.  She can be thrown into any situation and make friends and have fun.  She is either having the time of her life or in the depths of despair.  Typical girl behavior.  Being 6 has brought on some sassiness lately but in todays world she's going to need it.  She is as smart as a whip (obviously not inherited) and loves to read, read, read.  She has to wear my high heels (glad someone does) when she plays restaurant or tea party.  She loves going to school and going to church.  I love that she always reaches to hold my hand when we are out and about together and she thinks that girl time is the best thing in the whole world.  She has a definite opinion on her clothes and if she doesn't like it she will not wear it....no matter how cute I think it is.  She can really get going with her giggles and can laugh deliriously longer than anyone I know, which makes everyone around her laugh.  She loves me to sing her "Walk Tall You're a Daughter of God" every night and sings it on her own.  She wants to be a mom when she grows up and can't wait to go to girls camp.  She is so unique and very special to our family.
