Despite the dismal weather outside (grey, cold, and windy), I've had a pretty good day today. Call me superstitious, but I can't help but believe that it sets the tone for the whole year. And yeah, I know I'm supposed to be on a blogging break this week, but I couldn't do the recap post yesterday and not follow up with the goals post today. It just wouldn't be right. :-)
So I'm compromising. I'm going to make a list of my goals for the year, but I'm not going to go into any detail about them until Monday. So without further ado, in no particular order, here are my goals/resolutions for 2015:
30 minutes a day reading
500 words a day writing
10 pages a day editing
continue to de-clutter
work on and submit one short story/flash story a month
make better use of social media
spend 30 minutes a day on self promotion
journal on a regular basis
write more letters
give yoga a try
spend 1 hour a day on crafts
organize my books
This list is subject to change . . . you'll have to come back Monday to find out for sure. :-D

Myristicivorous Monday
myristicivorous ~ feeding upon nutmegs
Well how about that. Not only did I get all my posts done last week, I got them up in time as well. :-)
I made a start on my long-term goals, specifically figuring out where all my time goes during the day. And actually, because I was keeping track, I found I didn’t waste as much time as I normally would have. I’m slowly settling into a routine which includes spending a lot less time on the internet, which I’ve found to be the biggest time sink. I’ll still be checking my e-mails in the morning, and a quick check of Facebook, but I want to try and cut back on my gaming/socializing/surfing during the day.
As promised, I got the page up on Random Thoughts to keep track of what I’ve been reading, and I finally updated my What I’m Working On page on Random Thoughts. Now I just have to keep them updated.
Reading wise I re-read a couple of my favourite Charles de Lint books last week, and a bunch of stories I downloaded for free onto my kindle. The stories are not going to get put on my reading list unless they’re in an anthology. The list is for full length books only.
I was an editing machine last week and all I have left to edit on Fire is the journal entries, which I should have done in the next day or so and I can send it off to my readers. Be warned guys – it’s coming. ;-)
What’s Up For the Rest of the Week:
The schedule is up on the side bar, so I’m just giving the highlights here.
I’ve found some really interesting posts last week so check out tomorrow’s list.
Wednesday (on Random Writings) I think it’s time to see what Paran and Thackery are up to again. They’ve been kind of random in the serial, but I have big plans for them when I get to the edits. :-)
Thursday will be the first instalment of my newest serial, Water (on Random Thoughts).
Friday will have the poetry form of the Sevenling (Random Writings) and a new flash written from a picture prompt (Random Thoughts).

Multivious Monday
multivious ~ leading in many directions; offering many different paths
Is any body else going to be as happy to see the end of November as I am?
I was just barely keeping a cold at bay all week, which means I didn’t get much accomplished other than my blog posts and words to the NaNo. I tried a new strategy for catching up . . . staying off the internet. It worked pretty good, too.
Missed both my Scribe’s meeting and my Poetry meeting, but did take a break and went out for coffee with a friend on Wednesday (well, she had coffee; I had tea).
After a mediocre week, I had a spectacular day on Friday. I wrote over 6,000 words on my NaNo, took care of a few things around the house I’d been putting off, and started reading a new book (as a reward).
Then Friday evening the cold starting getting the better of me. And Saturday morning I woke up with the Super Mega Death Cold From Hell. Which is really kicking my ass, no matter how much cold medication I take.
What’s On For This Week:
Tuesday: The NaNo report has been moved to Thursday, and in its place I have a couple of announcements.
Wednesday: Another hump day hunk for your viewing pleasure. ;-)
Thursday: My last NaNo report of the year – What I Learned From NaNo.
Friday: Chapter 51 of Fire. So what’s Pyre up to that has E.Z. so concerned?
Random Thoughts
Monday: Part 5 of the parts of speech. This week it’s the Pronoun.
Wednesday: Chapter 29 of Shades of Errol Flynn. So Jessica’s going horseback riding. This ought to be interesting. :-)
Friday: The last excerpt from my NaNo novel. If you missed the other ones, you can catch week one’s HERE, week two’s HERE, week three’s HERE, and week four’s HERE .
Also this week:
There’s a new prompt up over at Rattles Flash Fiction. The deadline has been extended to January so you have plenty of time to come up with your thousand words for The Old Sofa. At the Water’s Edge is available through Brazen Snake Books, Amazon, , Smashwords, and Barnes & Noble. As well, you can also find In A Dark Place at Brazen Snake Books, Amazon, Smashwords, and Barnes & Noble if you’re looking for some inspiration or just a good read.
Anyone want to take bets on whether I’ll reach the finish line for NaNo or not? As I’m writing this (early Sunday evening) I still have about 10,000 words to go. The spirit’s willing but the body is achy, the sinuses are plugged up, and the head is fuzzy from cold medicine. It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
I seriously doubt if Twitter or Facebook will see much of me until I get ahead of this cold. Right now even checking my email seems like a lot of effort. But one thing I’d want to do once NaNo is finished is to start catching up with some of my favourite blogs. I’ve been sadly neglecting my blogging friends this month.
I need to come up with some kind of schedule for myself – X amount of time for blog surfing, X amount of time for writing, X amount of time for editing . . . Maybe I’ll start by keeping track of what I’m doing each day and for how long. I suspect I’m wasting far more time than I realize.
My husband suggested that I have only one goal for the week – Finish Nano, order hat. Works for me! :-)
So there you have it. My week ahead. What’s in store for you?

Millenarianism Monday
millenarianism ~ belief that an ideal society will be produced in the near future
I did a really stupid thing yesterday. The writing wasn’t going well and I didn’t want to fall into the old “playing games until I’m inspired to write” trap (which never seems to work anyway), so I shut my lap top down and decided toshovel out clean out straighten up my office. It’s been a few months since I last cleaned out my office. Do you know how much junk can accumulate in that time? Plus I started going through a bunch of stuff from the book cases to get rid of – mostly old magazines.
So far I’ve collected two shopping bags of magazines to dispose of, plus one of books. Yes, that’s right, I said books. I still have some re-arranging of some of the shelves of the bookcases to do, and I have a box full of papers from the surface of my desk to be sorted through. And I have to go through the boxes in the top of the closet. And go through the rest of the stuff piled on my desk. And maybe then I can vacuum up the clouds of cat hair.
Sometimes I have really stupid ideas!
*sigh*
Managed to get my posts done last week, although the Space Opera was delayed by a day. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but on my goals I said the poetry form was going to be the Rime Couée, which I’ve already done, instead of the Ushnik, which was the form I missed from the previous week.
I finished up with my 30 Days of Writing Questions on my Random Writings blog. If you want to check them out, I have back links posted in the left hand column. Now I have to decide on what’s next for this blog. I think it really will be random for a while.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part XVIII of my fairy tale series will explore Thumbelina. This series will be finished as soon as I can settle on what I’m replacing it with.
Wednesday: A new hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the Japanese form of Imayo.
Friday: Chapter 56 of the Space Opera. What’s in store for the intrepid crew of the Burning Comet? Will they give up? Is the mine really deserted? Will this series ever end? ;-)
Elsewhere in my week:
I have a Scribe’s meeting tonight, and a poetry meeting tomorrow night. While I always look forward to my meetings, there’s going to be a bit of a conflict. The hubby’s car died so we’re down to just mine, and bowling season has started, which means we both need the car on Monday and Tuesday nights to get to our respective places to be.
Today I need to finish cleaning my office, or at least shovel off the desk so there’s room for my lap top. The dining room table is okay for writing, but the chairs leave a lot to be desired when it comes to comfort.
The rest of my time will be spent editing, writing, and maybe even a little reading. Computer games are a waste of time and energy and contribute nothing to my productivity. I will not play computer games. Except for maybe a couple of rounds of spider solitaire. Or free cell. Maybe word mojo. But other than that, I will stay away from the games because games are an evil time sink.
Really they are.
Mostly.
And that’s the nutshell that is my week to come. How about you, do you have anything interesting going on this week?

Menticide Monday
menticide ~ reduction of mind by psychological pressure
Is it just me or was last week a really long week? Maybe it just seemed like it because I was without my lap top for the last half of it. However, my personal IT godmother (I would never call her a fairy) came and reformatted it for me and it’s running almost like new, which is pretty darn good considering it’s five years old.
You notice it took a woman to do the job properly. I’ve taken this lap top in three times to men and asked them to reformat it for me and what did they do? They did a system restore, not a reformat. I do know the difference, and I also know that’s the only sure way to get rid of a Trojan off your system.
I had everything important backed up and saved, and I even remembered to save my bookmarks. One thing I didn’t think of was to write down the password for my Facebook account. And I also didn’t write down the password for the e-mail account I created for it. And I timed out trying various passwords to get it to open so I couldn’t reset them for a couple of days. Argh!
I missed my poetry installment last week, and the only reason the serial chapter made it up was because I’d written and scheduled it earlier in the week. I took advantage of being internet-less and got some reading done, as well as some cleaning and baking.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part XVII of my fairy tale series will explore the Little Mermaid. I think this series will be wrapping up soon – I’m running out of fairy tales.
Wednesday: A new hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the French form of Rime Couée.
Friday: Chapter 55 of the Space Opera. I think I’m going to have to take a day and plot the remainder of this to the end. I’d like to have it wrapped up before NaNo.

Macrology Monday
macrology ~ much talk with little to say
First, a treat. Go HERE. The ultra fabulous Jamie DeBree is releasing her first novel, Tempest, and you don’t want to miss the excitement. And then you can go HERE to order your own copy. And if you buy the print copy and have some time to kill while you’re waiting, there are some sample chapters you can read HERE.
* ~ * ~ * ~ *~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Okay, last week . . . what did I do last week? I got most of my blog posts up, although I did miss the flash on Saturday. To be honest, unless a flash piece comes to me on its own, I find I spend way too much time searching for inspiration.
Please note that at long last my reading list has been updated. I have thrown in the towel as far as reviewing goes, and unless the book is really notable I’m only posting the title, author, and blurb. That being said, books number 40 and 41 do have personal comments accompanying them. :-)
I picked out my poems for my reading on Thursday. I decided since my love of poetry forms is what makes me distinctive within my poetry group, that’s what I’ll go with. So I’ve picked out several of my favourite forms and that’s what I’ll be reading. Unless, of course, I let fear get the better of me and just hyperventilate until I pass out. :-)
I started the onerous task of breaking my WIP into chapters. Why wasn’t I doing this as I went along? I have no idea. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time, but I’m paying for it now. I’m having my doubts about the saleability of this novel, but I don’t know if that’s because there’s really a problem with it, or I’m just applying some psychological sabotage.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part XIV of my fairy tale series be part two of Beauty and the Beast. If anyone has a favourite fairy tale they’d like me to investigate, drop me a line at carolrward(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll see what I can dig up.
Wednesday: A new hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the Free Form, also known as Free Verse.
Friday: Chapter 51 of the Space Opera. How much longer can I drag this out? Will they really get away or is the hammer about to fall?
Elsewhere in my week:
The Scribe’s meeting I thought was last week is actually tonight. I lost my notes about what our prompt for tonight is, but I won’t be going empty-handed. I have the first drafts of the pieces I’m submitting for our online literary magazine. I just need to print them before tonight.
Today I’m going to the town of Brighton with a friend for lunch. I’ll need to remember to take both my camera and my notebook. It’s an even smaller town than ours, but I hear the waterfront is nice and you never know when inspiration might strike.
Over on Random Writings, my Pearl of Wisdom for the week will Dialogue. I’ll probably go ahead a post a picture prompt, but it’ll only be for anyone who’s interested. I’m not making any promises on participating myself. I’m actually thinking of revamping Random Writings yet again.
My focus next week will be on getting organized so that I’ll be more productive with my writing time. I’ve made a good start with weaning myself away from the games, but I still spend too much time checking blogs, emails, and facebook. So, the new rule will be that I’m allowed to check my e-mails in the morning, then no internet until after supper. Yeah. We’ll see how it goes.

Manumission Monday
manumission ~ emancipation; freedom from slavery
You know, last week started out really well . . . I got rid of some of the excess books from my office and straightened up the papers. Giving up the games was much easier than I thought it would be, for the first half of the week anyway. As for the reading for reward purposes only . . . well, let’s just say I have five more books sitting on my desk to be added to the list for the reading challenge (three of which I read this weekend).
On the other hand, I did get all my posts done and posted in a timely fashion, and I even did a bonus post on Saturday for a cool hand-writing meme.
So, while I seem to be getting the game addiction somewhat under control, the reading for pleasure only didn’t last long. I think my mistake was reading while I ate lunch – once I started reading I wouldn’t want to stop. So this week we’re going to try not reading until after my writing and editing is done.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part XI of my fairy tale series, which is part two of Cinderella.
Wednesday: A new hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the Italian form of Rispetto.
Friday: Chapter 48 of the Space Opera. Who’s waiting for them at the space port, friend or foe? And more importantly, what had Nakeisha being going to tell Chaney right before they were rescued?
Elsewhere in my week:
I have no meetings this week. Be still my heart!
August will soon be upon us (where has the time gone??) and I need to start choosing the poems I’ll be reading on the 19th. This is not an easy task as I have to fill in about 20 – 30 minutes with poetry. AND to make matters worse, not only do I go on first, I’m followed by the town’s Poet Laureate.
Over on Random Writings, moving the flash piece to Saturday worked out rather well, so I’ll try it again this week. Also, my Pearl of Wisdom this week will be Point of View. Pop on over there to read my (deliberately) bad, 200 word, single sentence beginning to a novel.
And that’s pretty much it for the week. I feel like a slacker. :-)

Macilent Monday
macilent ~ lean; excessively thin
I have to admit I did far more reading than writing last week, but with the heat I didn’t feel like doing much else. As much as I love summer, I love it for the green-ness, not for the heat. I was born in a snow storm, which makes me a true winter’s child.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part IX of my fairy tale series will feature the Princess and the Pea.
Wednesday: A new hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the Welsh form of Gwawdodyn Hir.
Friday: Chapter 46 of the Space Opera.
Elsewhere in my week:
I have a few more plot holes in Forever and For Always before I can call it done, but it’s getting close, so when I’m not doing my blog posts I’ll be working on that.
I’ve fallen way behind on reviewing the books I’ve been reading for my reading challenge, so I’d like to start catching up on that. Maybe a review or two a day.
Other than that, I’ll be trying to stay cool. A neat trick during our present heat wave. What about you? What’s your week ahead look like?

Morphean Monday
morphean ~ of, like or pertaining to dreams
Last week pretty much went by in a haze. I got my posts done, and up on time, except for the flash piece I was supposed to finish for Random Writings. I almost had it finished and then I changed the story line in such a way it’s turning into a much longer piece. I think I need to get back into some kind of rhythm when it comes to my flash fiction.
Didn’t do so well on my “Finish the Damn Book” Challenge. When I have two blogs I’m doing posts for each week, it’s a little hard not to start something new before I get my required novel words in each day. I started out strong, but began to seriously slack off as the week went on. I’d like to blame the holiday weekend, but that would be a lie. *sigh* Hopefully I’ll do better this week.
Looks like my dry spell is over. I hadn’t been reading lately but I read five books in a row last week. The two that stand out the most are Fairyville, by Emma Holly (a really great erotic romance) and the Sugar Queen, by Sarah Addison Allen (a wonderful contemporary story with a little magic thrown in for good measure).
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part VIII of my fairy tale series will on Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Wednesday: Will feature a special hunk for my Yankie friends.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is a form called Hexaduad.
Friday: Chapter 45 of the Space Opera. Chapter 44 was intended to be a little more graphic, but then this whole electricity thing cropped up. What’s up with that?
Elsewhere in my week:
This is the first Monday of the month which means there’s a Scribe’s meeting tonight.

Multifarious Monday
multifarious ~ having great diversity; manifold
Last week went pretty well (knock wood). I made it to my Scribe’s meeting on Monday night, and even remembered my poetry group meeting on Tuesday night. I got all my posts written and posted on time, except for my flash piece on my Random Writings blog, which I wrote and then forgot to post until later in the day.
I finally settled on a format for the Random Writings blog. Monday’s I'm going to post a writing prompt – it might be in words, it might be a picture – and then I’m going to give anyone who cares to participate the rest of the week to think about it and then write a flash piece about it. I’ll post my own piece on Friday, and anyone else who plays can either e-mail theirs to me for posting (carolrward(at)gmail(dot)com) or post it in the comments. Wednesdays I’m going to impart some pearls of wisdom about writing, and then Friday, of course, will be the flash post.
Friday I decided that if I’m going to waste time on the computer I might as well waste it doing something more constructive than play games, so I logged on to the Absolute Write forum. It’s been a while since I’ve been there and I signed up for the “Finish the Damn Book” Challenge. The rules are pretty simple: You have to do something, anything, to your novel before you can log onto the internet; you can’t start a new project until your current one is finished; you must set a daily, weekly, or monthly goal – it should be your absolute minimum number of words for the time period specified. The hardest part is not logging onto the internet as soon as the lap top boots up.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part VII of my fairy tale series will take a look at Rumpelstiltskin.
Wednesday: Will feature a new Hump Day Hunk for your viewing pleasure. If you have any preferences, let me know. I’m always willing to do a little research. ;-)
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry is the French form of Rime Couée .
Friday: Chapter 44 of the Space Opera. However are Chaney and Nakeisha going to pass the time while waiting for the wind to die down?
Elsewhere in my week:
Umm. There’s a poetry reading in the next town over tonight that I might go to. It should be interesting – there’s going to be a performance poet doing a reading, and some actor is going to read the entire Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
Mid-week will see the start of the Canada Day celebrations in town, which means avoid driving downtown at all costs. :-) Seriously, there’s a waterfront festival going on and traffic is insane. Not as insane as what went on in Toronto for the G20 Summit, but insane for a small town.
If you want to know what’s happening this week on my Random Writings blog, click HERE
And that pretty much sums up my week. How about you? Any interesting preparations for the upcoming holidays? (My preparation consisted of planting patriotic red and white impatiens in my front garden.)

Metagnostic Monday
metagnostic ~ incomprehensible; beyond understanding
Last week really kicked my butt, on so many different levels. If you took all the bad luck I had in May (which, let me tell you, was considerable) and put it into one week, it still wouldn’t even come close to how bad last week was. I’m just grateful that the old week is gone and the new one is here. Let’s hope it will be kinder.
Two things of note:
First, I’d like to apologize to all my blogging friends out there whose blogs I normally comment on faithfully. I read your posts, but wasn’t able to do much (if any) commenting. The way my week was going I almost didn’t get my posts up.
Second, the fabulous Dolly, from Writer Revealed, had me do a guest post on her blog! She’s been running a weekly series called “Why I Write?” and I was honoured when she asked me to take part. If you don’t have her site bookmarked already, you can find it HERE. This is a great series and I advise everyone to have a look. I love seeing what makes other people tick.
Anyone play Mouse Hunt on Facebook? I learned a neat trick. If you leave the site, or even shut down your computer, without exiting out of Facebook, the game will keep running. This is how I’ve managed to make Apprentice level so fast. Even when I’m not using my computer I’m still catching mice. Of course the down side to that is people think I’m logged into Facebook when I’m not. :-)
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part V of my fairy tale series takes a more in depth look into Snow White and what Disney did to her. ;-)
Wednesday: Will feature a new Hump Day Hunk for your viewing pleasure. If you have any preferences, let me know. I’m always willing to do a little research.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry form is Minute Poetry, and trust me when I say it takes more than a minute to write it!
Friday: Chapter 42 of the Space Opera. What’s this test Nakeisha’s undertaking? And has anyone noticed the wind’s picking up?
Elsewhere in my week:
Tonight there’s a Scribe’s meeting, and since I missed the last two I’m really going to have to make the effort to go tonight. The prompt, if anyone else would like to give it a try, is to write 150 words in an anthropomorphic genre.
Quite frankly, that’s the only thing I’ve got “planned” for this week. As far as I’m concerned, if I get anything else done it’s gravy. I have two short bios to write, one for the anthology my poetry group is putting out and the other for the Scribe’s website. Why is it so hard to write about myself??
I also need to go through my poetry (dare I suggest organizing it again?) to choose poems for the anthology. This time I have three pages to fill. And maybe it’s time I started thinking about what poems I’m going to read for the poetry reading I’m doing in August.
Reading-wise . . . after a fast start I’ve slowed down considerably, but I’m still about half-way there. I’m thinking 52 books for the year was probably right for me after all. Can you believe it’s June already? It seems like just yesterday we were all complaining about the cold.
That’s what’s on my plate for the week, how about yours?

Multivoltine Monday
multivoltine ~ having several broods in one season (although I’m sure this applies to chickens, I’m defining brood as a brooding mood)
Last week was pretty darn good. Okay, so it was a four day week because of the holiday (here in Canada), and my poetry post went up 12 hours later than it was supposed to, but I got all my posts done ahead of time and it really took the pressure off.
I picked up my new glasses on Thursday, but they don’t seem as bifocally as my old ones were. For one thing, they really don’t help when I’m working on the computer, and I can’t use them for reading. I’m going to give them till the end of the week and if I’m still not happy with them I’ll have to do something about it.
Then came the weekend. One disaster after another - a roller coaster ride of almost good luck followed by really bad luck. I ended up feeling so beaten down by life I just didn’t have the energy to spare for any writing. Instead, I took my friend’s book out onto the deck and finished editing it in one fell swoop. So at least one good thing came out of the weekend. :-)
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part IV of my fairy tale series investigates the beginnings of one I’m sure everyone is familiar with – Snow White.
Wednesday: Will feature a new Hump Day Hunk for your viewing pleasure. If you have any preferences, let me know. I’m always willing to do a little research. ;-)
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry form is an Irish form, the Cro Cumaisc Etir Casbairnde Ocus Lethrannaigecht. Please don’t ask me what it means or how to pronounce it ‘cause I have no idea. But to make up for the tongue-twister form, I also have a quiz for you, so be sure to check it out.
Friday: Chapter 41 of the Space Opera. What is E.Z. doing in Chaney’s head? And will Nakeisha come out of the experience with her mind intact?
Elsewhere in my week:
Tonight there’s a Scribe’s meeting, and since I missed the last one I have no idea what the prompt was so I’ll be going empty-handed. And while I’m at my meeting, my wonderful daughter and her equally wonderful husband are going to my friend’s house to dismantle a lawn swing to bring it over here.
Now that I have the editing done on my friend’s book it’s back to the edits on my own work. Maybe even some new words.
The CPW (my poetry group) is putting out another anthology and I have until June 15 to submit my poems. I get three pages this time, plus I have to do a bio and include a photo. I guess the first step will be to organize my poetry, again!
And that’s what I’ve been/will be up to, how about you? What are you going to be up to this week?

Monopolylogue Monday
monopolylogue ~ dramatic work in which one actor plays many roles
Last week . . . well, I’ll tell you. The good news is, I met all my writing goals, and quite easily I might add. I even got my serial chapter posted on time on Friday, which was all the more surprising because I was in a car accident Thursday night. My car slid through a stop sign and got hit from both sides. All things considered, I came out of it in pretty good shape – mild concussion, mild whiplash, major assorted bumps and bruises – which is more than I can say for my poor Sante Fe.
Needless to say I didn’t get much accomplished over the weekend, except for a lot of reading. Yesterday I had the great good fortune to win a copy of Adam Slade’s just released book A Reaper’s Tale. It reminds me of that show, Dead Like Me, only it’s better. It also puts me in mind of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, only better. Oh, for crying out loud. Just click on the link and go buy a copy! You won’t be sorry.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: Part II of my fairy tale series will deal with Hansel and Gretel, a tale that deals with both poverty and abandonment.
Wednesday: Will feature a new Hump Day Hunk for your viewing pleasure.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry form is . . . um . . . uh . . . a surprise. To me as well as you. Normally I pick out the form on Sunday night, but I just didn’t get around to it. I have a feeling that whatever form I choose, it’s likely to be a short one. ;-)
Friday: Chapter 39 of the Space Opera. What’s going to happen to Nakeisha and Chaney so far from the city? Will Nakeisha be able to contact the Illezie?
Elsewhere in my week:
This week, my friend and I are going to see the new Robin Hood movie. But only if she drives. :-) Iron Man II was great, in case anyone was wondering. Robert Downy Jr. is perfect for the role. And if you stay through the bitter end of the credits, just like in the first Iron Man movie, then you get a glimpse of what’s going to happen next. And let me tell you, I can’t wait!
My own edits are going to have to wait this week because I really have to get working on the edits of my friend’s book. I’d meant to get it done over the weekend, but it didn’t happen.
I read three books during the enforced “taking it easy” after my accident, and I’m ready to start the Mammoth Book of Time Travel Romance this week.
Don’t forget about the Let’s Talk Blogfest tomorrow. My offering will be up HERE .
I'm ready for a nice, quiet week this week. How about you? What are you up to?

Mulligrubs Monday
mulligrubs - a despondent or ill-tempered mood
The jury’s still out on the new colours for this blog, but I didn’t have any time to work on it last week or over the weekend. If you haven’t checked it out already, there’s a new blogfest that starts May 18. This is the Let’s Talk Blogfest and you can either read the original post HERE or pop over to my Random Writings blog HERE to get a look at the rules for it.
Last week was pretty busy at work. One of the girls messed up big time ‘causing the boss to miss an important deadline. She was let go, which meant the rest of us had to work all that much harder. I brought work home twice for the overtime, which meant I didn’t get any extra writing done.
I did, however, manage to get all my posts up, although I did cheat a bit by not writing an original example for the weekly poetry form. I got Chapter 36 of the Space Opera done on time, even though it meant a late night. For some reason I had a lot of late nights last week.
This weekend, there was another bowling tournament, which meant another weekend spent out of town. (Hubby placed fifth in the Pins Over Average) I didn’t bring my lap top with me, but I did get some constructive writing done. I finished reading a novella a friend wants me to edit, and then I did some edits on my own work. I also managed to squeeze in time to write a couple of poems.
This Week’s Goals:
Tuesday: I’m not sure if I’ll be starting the new series this week or not. We’ll see how much time I have tonight. If not, I’ll see if I can scare up some other random facts for your perusal.
Wednesday: I think it might be time for a little more pet humour.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry form is the Tanka, a Japanese form much like the haiku (in that it’s a syllabic form) only it’s longer.
Friday: Chapter 37 of the Space Opera. What will the captain tell the rest of the crew? Just how will Nakeisha contact the Illezie?
Elsewhere in my week:
I have a meeting of the Northumberland Scribes tonight – yes, again! We’re supposed to meet the first and third Monday of each month, but last month got screwed up because of activities in the library where the group meets.
Other than my friend’s novella, I didn’t’ get much reading done last week (though I did manage to buy three more books), so I’d like to squeeze some time in for that, if possible. I guess it’ll depend on whether or not I bring any work home with me. It’s not that I have to bring work home, it’s just that I get paid the same wage for working at home as I do for working at the office. VISA and Mastercard insist on being paid on a regular basis, so I need all the money I can earn.
So that’s what’s in my near future. How about you? What are you up to this week?

Mantic Monday
mantic of, like or pertaining to divination; prophetic; divinely inspired
My normal routine is to figure out my weekly goals while watching True Blood on Sunday nights. It occurred to me during the week that I might be better served by figuring out the coming week’s goals on Friday night, while watching Stargate Universe, leaving me free to get a jump start on my posts over the weekend.
*sigh* It was good in theory. In practice I was too busy sweating over my entry for the Behind the Headlines Blogfest to worry about my goals. My story was much more difficult than I’d first envisioned, and I didn’t get the actual post up until Saturday (you can read it here if you care to.)
I also spent part of Saturday downloading a trial version of Office 2007 (it took several tries). This buys me a couple of months to save up for a copy of my own, and in the meantime I was able to get some work done on both Saturday and Sunday.
I met all my blogging goals last week, although I fell a bit behind on my blog reading and commenting. And this was despite going to a Scribe’s meeting one night and the movies another night. I just wish I’d managed to get some other writing or editing in as well. This was one of the reasons I started thinking about working on goals at the beginning instead of the end of the weekend. Oh well, maybe next week.
This Week:
Tuesday: Part XI of the Fortune Telling Series will be Pyromancy.
Wednesday: Will be going back to the cats and dogs for something humourous.
Thursday: The Passion for Poetry this week is the poetry form of the Quatern.
Friday: Chapter 35 of Space Opera. Just how much are things going to change between Chaney and Nekeisha? And where’s E.Z.?
Elsewhere in my week:
Other than having to drive to a nearby city tonight, my nights are pretty much free this week. Hopefully this will translate into more writing/editing time between blog posts. Why do I feel like I’m forgetting something? :-)
So, blogoverse, that’s what’s ahead in my week. How about you?

Matutinal Monday
matutinal ~ of, like or pertaining to the morning; happening early in the day
How was everyone’s long weekend? I don’t know about where you live, but where I am we had record breaking temperatures all weekend. It was amazing! People coming out of hibernation, peeling off layers of outerwear; lawns getting raked and gardens getting uncovered. The cats are happy campers because I’ve had the windows open for the last few days (although last night I had to close them ‘cause the temperature dipped down again).
I got a lot accomplished during my long weekend, but only some of it was writing. One thing I did notice was that I got more writing done sitting at my desk in my office instead of sitting in front of the television. ;-)
Got my all my regular posts written and up last week, although Friday’s post was slightly delayed as I struggled over just how graphic to make it. I’m finding there are a lot of things I’d like to change when I get the Space Opera into edits, and this scene is one of them.
The cutting myself off from games didn’t go as well as I expected, I still have a serious problem with Mahjong Connect. If anyone else would like to give it a try, you can find it HERE. It will provide hours of mindless fun.
Friday, I managed to get some editing done before the kids came over to help rake the yard. We’ve got a really big yard and can use all the help we can get. Saturday I spent a lot of time working refining my database and entering more books into it. Okay, I also spent a lot of time skimming through a few books I’d forgotten about, which is why I didn’t get any writing done. Though I did start reading one of the new books I bought for myself as an Easter present.
Sunday I surfed for subjects for my middle of the week posts and got some editing done. Then late in the day I suddenly remembered it was the fourth and today was the Behind the Headlines Blogfest. Naturally I ended up spending an obscene amount of time searching for my headline. Hopefully, I’ll get the actually story written either today or tomorrow.
This Week:
Tuesday: Part X of my Fortune Telling Series will be the art of Graphology. Hopefully I can pare down all the information I found regarding it to a manageable amount.
Wednesday: Something humourous of course. I have no idea what yet.
Thursday: This week’s Passion for Poetry will explore the Bref Double. Don’t forget folks, this is National Poetry Month. If you want to have some fun with poetry, have a go at the PAD Challenge (poem a day).
Friday: Chapter 34 of Space Opera. Will I allow Chaney and Nakeisha time to bask in the afterglow, or will I throw something bad at them before they can even catch their breath?
Elsewhere in my week:
Tuesday night I’m going to go Clash of the Titans with a friend to see how it compares with the original version and Wednesday I have a Scribes meeting (which should have been tonight but the library we meet at is closed for Easter Monday).
I’m thinking it might be a smart move to not only figure out what I’m posting (for the week to come) on the weekends, but write the actual posts too. This way all I have to do is schedule the posts for the appropriate time and weeknights would be available for other writing.
Too bad I didn’t think of that at the beginning of the weekend instead of the end. ;-)

Mistaken Monday
Last week started out pretty good, time management-wise. I got the first few posts done early and only had to schedule them on the proper day. Then Wednesday night I started working on the poetry post and spent more time staring at the screen than writing.
My poetry muse must have taken a vacation because the poem just wouldn’t come. A smart person would have switched to something else when they realized the poetry wasn’t working, but no one’s ever accused me of being smart. :-)
I worried at the darn thing until the wee hours and had a single stanza for my trouble. Next morning I went back at it again before work and managed another stanza. I’ll be the first to admit it’s not my best work, but it wasn’t the fault of the form, I just couldn’t get my head in the right space.
This weekend was even less stellar, between the weather and fighting off the death flu I didn’t have the energy to write anything. Didn’t even get started on the taxes which I’d hoped to have finished by now. C’est la vie.
RECAP:
My posts were all written and posted as planned, although anyone who pays attention to such things might have noticed that the time stamps for Thursday and Friday’s post were a half hour later than usual.
I did not get any extra writing done, except for the short short for my Scribe’s meeting on Monday night. I’m not exactly sure where my time went, but for some reason I also fell way behind on my blog reading and commenting. Sorry all!
This Week
Tuesday: Part VIII of my fortune telling series will examine the Ouji board. Yes, I once used a Ouji board, I was about 8. My best friend and I used it in the basement and asked who we’d marry when we grew up. My response was the letter “W” – which meant nothing to me at the time ‘cause I didn’t know anyone with that initial. Make of it what you will. ;-)
Wednesday: I’ll probably have a human story for you this week, but I found so much funny stuff about cats and dogs that you can be sure we haven’t seen the last of them.
Thursday: Passion for Poetry this week will be the Spanish form of the Glosa.
Friday: Chapter 32 of the Space Opera. Just how much joy will I let Nakeisha and Chaney “explore”? Or will I chicken out again and have something horrible happen to them instead?
I’m only about a third of the way through The Time Traveler’s Wife. I’m enjoying the book but I just haven’t been finding the time to read like I usually do. I blame this on the energy zap from the death flu.
And that’s my week in a nutshell, what are you going to be up to? Don’t be shy, share!

Misdirected Monday
I still don’t seem to have a handle on the whole time management thing. This weekend was supposed to be a catch-up for everything that I fell behind on during the week, however, I brought some work home with me to wrack up some overtime instead.
RECAP:
Got all my blog posts written and up on time, which surprised the heck out of me! Did not get any extra writing done though, which was pretty disappointing. Didn’t even manage to get the letter to my sister finished. I really need to get that buckling down to work thing mastered.
After getting the progress bars up on Random Writings, I didn’t get anything else done over there. I have another Scribe’s meeting tonight, so at the very list I hope to have a very short short to post later.
This Week
Tuesday: Part VII of my fortune telling series will explore the art of Ceromancy. If you want to know what that is, you’ll have to check back tomorrow. :-)
Wednesday: It’s only fair that dogs have their say, so this week’s Whimsical Wednesday will be going to the dogs.
Thursday: Passion for Poetry this week will be the Hungarian form of the Balassi Stanza.
Friday: Chapter 31 of the Space Opera. Why did Libby do what she did? Did she act alone, or under someone else’s orders?
I’m not going to list anything else that I’d like to do. If the boss has more work for me to take home I’ll probably be doing that instead. After a year of unemployment (which was a fraction of what I was getting paid) and a year of a “living allowance” (which was a fraction of what unemployment was) I can really use the money.
I’ve also got books stacking up faster than I can read them. The boss gave me a couple to read and the daughter brought me the first one in another series. *sigh* I’m very weak when it comes to books.
So, that’s what I’ll be up to this week, how about you? Read any good books lately? Done anything interesting? How can I live vicariously through you if you won’t share?? :-)

Motivational Monday
Okay. I admit it. I was a complete and utter slacker this weekend. I blame my daughter. She gave me the first two Twilight books. Which I read Friday evening and Saturday, then I went to her place on Sunday to get the other two. I didn’t even get to my usual rounds of blog reading until Sunday evening. Forget getting any writing done.
Despite my slacking, the wonderful Dolly, Queen of the Journals, gave me a Creative Writer Award. Thank you so much Dolly! Be sure to visit her blog Writer Revealed. She always has interesting things to say. And to see why she deserves the title of Queen of the Journals, visit Editing Hat to read her guest post about journalling for writers.

In order to accept this award, I have to make up 6 lies and 1 truth. It’s up to you to guess which one is the truth. I’ll post the answer next Monday.
1. I don’t colour my hair.
2. When I was little, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
3. I’m a morning person.
4. I love sitting out in the sun in summer.
5. I have no problem getting up in the morning.
6. My favorite colour is yellow.
7. Even though I love reading, I’m a slow reader.
RECAP
Last week was a busy week for me. On top of my regular posting I had a story to do for the 1K Words Blogfest, a poem for my poetry group, and my business plan (both writing it and presenting it) for school. And it was also my first week at work.
I can’t believe I got everything done! The post for Thursday was a little late (okay, a lot late) but I still managed to get it done. I confess that I didn’t make my Scribes meeting (it was snowing like crazy Monday night) and I didn’t go to the administration meeting for my poetry group on Thursday, but I met all my other obligations and still came out with my sanity intact. :-)
This Week:
Tuesday: Part V of my fortune telling series. I think this week we’ll explore what can be done with playing cards, a direct descendant of the Tarot.
Wednesday: Something humourous of course, though I’m not sure what form it will take.
Thursday: the Passion For Poetry form this week will be the Rubai. You may know it under the more familiar name of Rubaiyat.
Friday: Chapter Twenty-Nine of the Space Opera. What’s the matter with Nakeisha? Was anyone else taken ill? Will she be found in time?
Random Writings
I really have to start paying more attention to this blog. I got lots of nice comments on the story I posted there, and I picked up three more followers.
Tonight is another Scribes meeting, and I fully intend to attend whether it’s snowing or not. So after the meeting I’ll post the prompt and my piece that results from it.
There was something else I wanted to do over there but I can’t remember what it is.
Mundane Goals
This week I fully intend to finish reading the Twilight series and then I’ll update my reading challenge. I will not be doing any more knitting on the leg warmers the kid sweet talked me into knitting for her until I finish reading – she gave me the darned books, she can suffer the consequences. :-)
I need to start a letter to my NB sister, she phoned me from our other sister’s house on the weekend, which means she’s back from her cruise and I owe her a letter.
I also need to clean out my dresser. I cleaned out my closet a couple of weeks ago, and by the time I was finished that I didn’t want to even look at the dresser. But it just doesn’t want to clean itself, so it looks like I’m stuck with the job.
It looks like a lot, but it’s stretched out over a whole week. And I’ve found that now that I’m working, I’m not wasting as much time on games on the computer. So that’s what I’ve got lined up this week, how about you?

Money-Making Monday
“I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go . . .”
Yes folks, it’s my first day at my brand new job. Did I spend my weekend brushing up on Word and Excel which I will be using in my new job? Nope. Did I do any of the vast amount of writing I have waiting for me - a flash piece for my scribes meeting tonight, the business plan I still have to present at school for my diploma, the poem I’m supposed to have ready for my poetry group tomorrow night, my piece for today’s blogfest, not to mention editing and new words on my current projects. Of course not.
Instead I gorged myself on mindless games as a coping mechanism to deal with the anxiety I’m feeling about my new job. Yes, I know I’m being unreasonably paranoid, but I can’t help it. That’s just the way I’m wired. I can shrug off bad stuff happening, but I always view the good stuff with suspicion.
RECAP
It was another blur-filled week last week. First of all, it was a short week ‘cause of the holiday Monday, and then I had to cram my last two weeks of school into the remaining four days. I took my last exam on Friday afternoon.
The good news is, I reached all my goals last week. Got all my posts done and up in time and I even managed to write my own poem to illustrate my poetry post.
I also start knitting a pair of leg-warmers for the daughter, which strikes me as a little silly considering what a mild winter we’ve had. I’m using four double pointed needles, and at the rate I’m making progress they might be done in time for next winter.
Goals for This Week:
Random Tuesday: Fortune Telling, Part Four. This week I’m trying something a little different. I’ve got a video to show a fortune telling method you’ve probably all tried at one time or another.
Whimsical Wednesday: I haven’t thought this far ahead. Will it be a cartoon? A video? A story? Guess we’ll have to wait until Wednesday and we’ll both be surprised. :-)
Thursday: This week on Passion for Poetry, is the French form of the Retourne.
Friday: Chapter 28 of the Space Opera.
This week I also have a bunch of meetings: Northumberland Scribes tonight, the meeting of my poetry group tomorrow night (I blew off the poetry reading last week to study for my exam), an administration meeting of my poetry group on Thursday, and Thursday morning I have to present my business plan to my former class. School starts at 8:30 a.m. and work doesn’t start until 9:30, which gives me just enough time, even with the commute.
Random Writing
I still don’t have my progress bars up. Will I get them up this week? No promises, but I’ll try.
DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE 1K WORDS BLOGFEST!
I’ve picked out my picture, I just have to finish my story. Hopefully I’ll have my offering up later today/tonight. It’s not too late to join the fun, go HERE
Okay, enough about me, what about you? What are you up to this week?
