wakanda forevah!

it was uncanny to my memory, in which I wrote my wish is to meet someone who can freeze time and everything.  on the last weekend, I was taken aback by the conversation when Okoye told T'Challa not to freeze in front of Naqiya, that T'Challa replied, I never freeze, because the smart person that I was with at the time kept making silly mistakes, like getting into the wrong cinema, ordered stuff that he didn't like and took the wrong bus to home when we departed.

i looked at myself in the mirror, was i really looking for myself and trying to avoid the big question in my life. i had already make a plan to leave. i feel like a floating astronaut, i just could not find means and place to settle. mom has been calling me home, she misses me or maybe i annoyed her so much when she mentioned about marriage and i told her that some people don't just get old, they die young. she was frustrated with my answer - i do know she and dad are worried, but there are things in life that i don't even know if i want them anymore. it is complicated, strange and wonderful too. the inexplicable feelings - that you know when you know, hasn't get to me yet.

me and friends are planning to go to video arcade like in the 80s and san junipero (the black mirror) this weekend. also to ICA for bill cunningham. last week was ai wei wei. i am writing a piece on transhumanism as interstellar species for malaysia space agency - how tissue and genetic engineering would be the frontier to this endeavor. i am starting to love boston, too bad that i have to leave soon.

scientists and roommates

secondhand serenade - a twist in my story

secondhand serenade was the record that pull me back to the past and the same platonic loop, melancholic rhymes, crazy little things, betrayals and love again.

i guess, in life we all are designed to get addiction to something that is not good for us. be it alcohol, pain, unrequited love, drugs and crosswords - well, too much of crosswords can actually ruin a relationship - a fine example is the movie, all about steve, where a nerdy, eccentric crossword puzzler, sandra bullock fell in love with a tall, good looking, cameraman, bradley cooper and trailed him all the way crossing the country trying to convince him that they belong together.

sandra bullock won the worst actress in that movie on the same year she won an oscar for the blind side.

betrayals in war are child like compared to betrayals during peace. the new lovers enter the habits of the other. things are smashed, revealed in a new light. this is done with nervous or tender sentences, although the heart is an organ of fire.

the english patient - Micheal Ondaatje

i first read the english patient for an english class during my 3rd undergraduate year and fell in love with the masterpiece.

how could something innocuous, innate and inexplicable can be something so beautiful? i realise that it was my love for almasy, the main character in the book subliminally brought me into skin tissue engineering and to come across literatures and works by Prof. Yannas and Dr. Burke at Boston Children Hospital with burn patients and to Prof. MacNeil in England.

there is always be madness behind every love story. the rush of adrenalin, racing heart beat and palpitation - and in my case it was my love at reading. reading brought me into boundless realm of reality, characters, lives and places that i had never been before. it then shaped me into someone or something else every time i finished my reading. i woke up a different person, like i had lived a thousand lives.

i remember the first time when i arrived to new york, the air and ambiance seemed very familiar to me from the movie scenes, books and articles. Bill Cunningham's segment in the nytimes was my favorite. (me and friends planned to go to ICA, Boston this weekend to celebrate his works).

and if someday, i meet someone who is able to stop the time and freeze everything. he must be the one.......

philosophical inquiry of the origin of our ideas of the sublime and the beautiful in search of ethics for the technological age

emergence of modern mind and the imperative of responsibilities.

i hate to admit that netflix series - black mirror, terrorized me. it meshed up my brain and sleeping pattern. i stopped using social media all weekend and only talked to my mom and sister. i hate my roommate who suggested me to start watching the series - simply because her bf was left in peculiar state of mind for weeks after completing the series in marathon. i feel that i am experiencing the state out-of-mind experience from the revelations of technological harm depicted in the black mirror series.

maybe i am just paranoid -  by the books written by hans jonas - on the imperative of responsibilities - in search of ethics for the technological age and morality and mortality - which i quote "our mortality is at the root of our moral responsibility to safe guard humanity's future. " the books discussed the inseparability of ethics and metaphysics, and the reality of values at the center of being. he also described the threat of nuclear war, ecological ravage, genetic engineering, biochemical war-fare, autonomous, inequality, mass extinction and list of dystopian nightmare.

there is no way that one can predict all the outcomes from technological transformation of a society in good or bad ways. it is irony to global and eternal problems that we are building technological advancement in the expense of others and the creation of inequality.

phasing out jobs to autonomous is not going to solve the problem with inequality.

it only shifts the financial burden and constrain from employment in the industry to the government and welfare bodies which will have to deal with job-less, un insured, poor, unprivileged people.

will universal income solve the problem? the question itself brought me to the loop - the conclusion of satire musical called the urinetown. in good times and carefree, human will always over consume until their resources are depleted - causing the population to collapse and in brink of death where dictatorship will be needed to restrict supply, and restore order and function. pretty much we are f*cked up. i think it is all happening now. i can't go to mind my own business at anywhere without paying for a cuppa. two dollar is a minimum price for a coffee and admission to a toilet in a decent cafe. what is the point of drinking when u will be needing another cuppa to ethically discharge the product of metabolism (which resulted from consuming the previous cuppa). i swear that i am going to break anyone's finger who created this loop.

urgh. maybe i should not take hard on my introductory lesson to pyton - and believing that we are living in computer simulation.

i wish i could sit back and enjoy reading edward burke's trial - to bring warren hasting and british india company to court for imperialism and crimes against humanity* genocide in their territories.

according to rome statue definition - there are distinctions between crimes against humanity and genocide - which to my opinion both are the same, heinous act of killing which should be stopped and prevented at all cost. all i see is evil and injustice. heck, why do we need to discuss about language. and choice of words.

---------------------------- another book that i am reading is called the gene, by siddharta mukherjee. it's a continuation from modern prometheus - not the one by mary shelley but by jim kozubek, published in 2016 (i was the one who read and borrowed it first from the library)............................and from the gene, i bought an interesting book called what is life by erwin shrodinger - just because almost all Nobel laureates read the book before making their discoveries in protein, genetic engineering. i hope i can buy my luck too.

i need to sleep now. oh, i stopped going to gym and embrace running along the river and reservoir again, like the first time when i arrived in boston. i think i am going to spend the money i saved from gym to buy myself a nice fedora. i like that hat shop in harvard. i fancy myself as an alienist - just like the novel. i think the book is the present time masterpiece after agatha christie and sir arthur conan doyle.

i hope my parents will be proud of me. i got drunk from reading too much books and hardly sleep because of that. i seek solace from tiredness after running. i am the lab rat of my own experimental life.

have academicians fail the moral test?

dear daisy,

one scope of my training in the kaufman professional teaching program at mit is to prepare myself as an academician and be able to come up with "teaching philosophy" of my own. teaching philosophy is a not only a guiding principle of teaching and learning, but also an embodiment of philosophical thinking that includes questioning, rationalizing, logical thinking, exchange of ideas and ethics. it is aspiration for every university in the world to provide students regardless of their backgrounds and abilities with the best experience and preparing them for a successful and bright careers in the future by providing the best facilities and assistance to help them achieving the best fruits from their hard work.

it is wrong for academicians to have preconception that the non-abled bodies are incapable of achieving success. it is the responsibilities of institutions and academicians to provide assistance and special accommodations to students who merit their admissions.

disabilities should not define motivation, ambition and identities of any individuals who strive hard and craving for success.

disabilities shaming - should not be the norm and dismiss with impunity. the word "mentally retarded"  should not be used in any context or email as it will reduce the writer to the lowest moral ground.

as concern citizens, we need to rescue this philosophical thinking of creating highly academic excellence from its self induce irrelevance and absurdities starting with changing our attitudes.

day zero in cape town and the problem with stella artois advertisement at superbowl

yesterday marked the day zero for cape town, world’s first major city to be affected by chronic, if not gravely ill water shortage problem. the reason for water scarcity in the world is not only due to the effect of global warming, but also due to mismanagement, clearing and destruction of forest and aquifers, pollution, human activities, agriculture, industrial activities and over use. water crisis in cape town marked the tragedy of the common, where exploitation of ubiquitous modalities that are not owned by individual like air, water and fishes by users to maximize their individual welfare simultaneously reduce the social benefit to the community. an easy example of this tragedy is over fishing which not only alter the bio-hydrological system and food chain, but reduced general health of other populations in the area as well as reduction of the incomes.

what i found very disturbing about the advertisement’s message is - buy your lady a drink and support  water.org to provide three years of water supply to developing countries. water.org is not a charity or service provider to water supply, they are microfinancer - like bank to poor, uneducated people in the developing countries whose service not just lending monies but collecting interest too. only their business model is to lend money for water cause.

the privatization of water services is part of a process called structural adjustment to force the developing countries to adopt market-based economy favored by powerful governments and corporations with back up by international monetary fund (imf) and world bank.

do you really think that anyone with concious mind will buy their ladies drinks to help people in developing countries to get access to clean water?

vineyard and wine making industry in south africa is one of the major factors that driven water calamity in cape town. it is estimated that a pint of beer used 20 gallons of water to produce while 132 gallons of water to make 2 liter of soda. is it ethical for a beer company which used a lot of water resources and a private bank (microlender) to use the stories of the difficulties to access clean water among the poor in developing countries to collect fund so they can give loans to these poor people.

a lot of people told me that is was better than nothing.

but seriously people? or matt damon?

water is essential to the very existance of human life. we are not just made of matters and atoms from supernova explotion, we are 70% water too. we need to prevent the tragedy of the common by prioritize and protect water as public resource for the public and ecological interest. watee should be declared a public trust - and protected from exploitations by the greedy, unethical corporations and industries. i suggest that everyone should watch the musical called “urinetown” to get the idea and glimpse about this problem.
