Nokia 6208 Classic full review

Addicted to S40 devices but still want to get the touch screen feature, but sadly there was no touch screen phone in the S40 series till Nokia 6208 Classic launched. Yes, that’s right; Nokia 6208 Classic is the first touch screen phone to be featured in the S40 series. The phone ranges in a reasonably comfortable price tag range and will be going to cost around 13K.

Some may feel that it’s a bit too costly but keeping an eye on all the features and phone specifications, the price is just right. Moreover it’s the launch price which is bound to get low in a month or so. May be that’s the right time to buy the phone if you think it’s costly right now. The looks of the phone are so stunning that you just can’t pass unnoticed. The glazing silver metallic finish, especially the back panel and the camera borders are just so cool.

Alright it’s a touch screen but still it also has a alphanumeric keyboard. Was there actually a need for this, why waste so much space. I could spot 2 basic reasons for this. May be they wanted the users to give more ease in typing as they are used to it or if they you would have increased the screen size and removed the keypad, it would have been a costly option and the price tag would have shifted from mid range to high range.

Let’s have a look at the phone specifications:

• 2.4-inch QVGA display (320 x 240) with Up to 16.7 million colours

• Supports Email and Web browsing

• 3.2-megapixel camera with Dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom

• TCP/IP support including EDGE and GPRS

• microSD memory card slot, hot swap, max. 8 GB

• Play music using the 3.5mm jack

• Handy stylus glued at the back of phone

• USB 2.0 or Bluetooth Connection

Tweets 60 For Symbian Mobile Phones - Free Twitter Client For Nokia Mobile Phones

I have already written about many twitter applications for symbian mobile phones and to the list of twitter applications, there is a new application called Tweets 60 which is currently in its beta stage and its full version is due to be launched shortly. Moreover the developers have also proposed to launch the same application for 3rd and the 5th edition mobile phones.

Features of Tweets 60

• Just like all the other mobile phone twitter application, you can post directly from mobile phone, it’s just the difference of GUI but the working and the functionality all remains the same.
• Now if I say posting tweets via mobile client is faster, that won’t be wrong at all. It always saves time when posting via client than using the mobile sites.

• There is another option of managing the people whom you are following but very seldom people use this feature. I don’t think anybody would delete the people they are following unless somebody is spamming.
• The developers have to say that the Tweets60 with basic functionality will always be free. However a newer version with more advanced features is also in development for which the users may have to shell out something.
• It is also advisable to install Tweets60 on your memory card rather than phone memory as the database will expand when you use it continuously.

Nokia 6790 Mako Hands On!

So check it… We just got our hands on Nokia’s 6790 (codenamed Mako) device — the freaky 3G sliding QWERTY headed for AT&T. There have been no live pictures of this bad boy so we went ahead and took a bunch. The phone itself is drastically different from what we’d expect from Nokia (just based on their design heritage) yet ridiculously lackluster. While most of you (us included) thought this would be a high-end device, our quick perusal dictates otherwise. It feels like it would fit right in with the Samsung Propels, LG Xenons and Pantec Matrixs of the world. That’s not to say this is anything final, the unit we have is obviously not a retail unit nor is the software it’s running finished either, but these are just the first impressions we’re getting.

The screen is pretty low-res and low quality as well. We’re not feeling the keyboard (the fact Nokia still doesn’t move the letter Z one space over is hilarious) and the unit itself screams low-end to be perfectly honest. Kind of a let down. Check out our photos of this mythical beast in our gallery, leave us any questions in the comments, and stay tuned for a review of this unit pretty soon!

N97 disassembled on video

Are you dying to see Nokia's latest, the N97 ripped to shreds in glorious moving pictures? Well, that's too bad: we don't have that. What we do have, however, is a series of photographs of said shred-ripping, turned into a video. A creepy, silent film, if you will, complete with subtitles. Lack of movement and sound aside, it gives us a pretty great look at the innards of the handset, if that's what you're into. Sure, it's not The Goldrush, but if you want to see the N97 in a talkie, there's always that Royksopp video, right? Click here for the video...

Nokia N97 NAM release date ?

The Nokia Blog's got it on good authority that the Finnish phone maker's giving its North America distributors the heads up to expect the N97 to arrive on June 2nd for $699, although that price might end up lower. We've been hearing an expected June launch for some time, so it's definitely not out of the question. This does, however, serve as both an exciting and somewhat painful reminder that, should a couple other rumors pan out, June's gonna be a busy month for smartphones.

Nokia N97 vs. LG Viewty Smart: Side By Side Comparison

The Nokia N97 has been confirmed for a June release, but just today LG has announced their flagship handset for the Summer, the Viewty Smart.

Boasting an 8 megapixel camera, amazing video recording and a 3" touchscreen, the Viewty Smart certainly has the credentials to be a genuine contender. But which is better?

This table compares their specs side by side I'll leave you guys to draw your own conclusions...

The S-Class User Interface vs. Symbian S60 v5 for the touchscreens, 5MP Carl Zeiss or 8MP Schneider-Kreuznach, Nokia Maps or Google Maps for GPS...what do you think?

Me? Love the look of the N97, it just exudes luxury whilst the Viewty Smart smacks of LG Arena v2.0, but I'm trying to keep out of this one!

SMS Spam Manager - Free SMS Spam Blocker For Nokia Symbian Mobile

The name of the application speaks for itself if not completely you can easily make out what this application is all about. Sometimes it happens that you get completely frustrated by the untimely messages you receive. Sometimes late in the night when you are sleeping a sound sleep and the phone rings and what you discover is that it’s just a message. Or consider the situation when you are in office presentation and you get messages there.
To add to the frustration when you see the messages later on and discover that the messages were not from your girl friends but they were only spam or service messages. With SMS Spam Manager installed in your mobile phone you can effectively filter all your incoming SMS messages and keep a check on all the junk and unwanted messages. Sometimes SMS Spam Manager can also prove to be harmful as you may miss on an important message. Specifically for this purpose there are 6 filters included in the application. By selecting each you can selectively filter out the kind of messages you want to.

Here is information about all the modes under which you can configure your mobile phone so that you can customize the messages you want to block and those you don’t want to block.

• Accept all (inactive)
• Block all
• Accept phonebook only
• Block from black list rules
It’s quite easy to understand what these 4 filters will do when activated. If you use that fourth option you will see that there are further 3 optoins that you can configure under that option to provide a etter filter.

• Telephone number
• Prefix number
• Text match

Again I don’t think I need to tell about these sub filters as to what they do and how they function. Download SMS Spam Manager

Handy ZIP - Compress Data On Your Nokia Symbian Phone and Increase Space

All the Smartphone users experience the problem of storage space in their mobile phones. To counter this problem you have few alternatives, you can either delete junk and keep rotating the data so that you can keep what you want and delete the old junk data. Another option is to increase the storage space but it can’t go beyond the limit that can be supported by the phone. The other most likely solution is to compress the data so that you can bring in more and more new data. This compression software for symbian mobile phone is not available as a free download but its evaluation version is available as a free download and can be downloaded from the link given below. Handy ZIP comes in handy not only when you want to compress the files but it’s also useful when you are attaching files to email. When you send smaller files it will take time and obviously it will be a cheaper option as lesser data charges will be deducted.

But the limitation is that the other receiving end mobile phone also should have Handy ZIP installed so that the file can be decompressed and can be read. The application also comes in handy when you want to send many files, now you will be required to attach each file individually, that’s a lot of time wastage. Instead you can zip all the files and send them as a composite file which needs to be attached once. Moreover when you are surfing the internet and quite often you would have come across many zip files, with Handy ZIP installed in your mobile phone you can extract the files directly from internet and can excess the contents in the zip folder right away.Download Handy ZIP

Y-browser - Free File Explorer For Nokia and Symbian Phones

Don’t go by the name of the application as it gives a notion that the application is some mobile phone web browser but it’s actually not the case. Y-browser is symbian mobile phone file manager application which is available as a free download. It includes all the features that a file browser must have but at the same time what makes it different from the other file managers is that you have the option of the sending the files when you are browsing through the files.

The functionality of Y-browser has all the features of a system file manager which includes features such as copy, cut, paste, create, move etc. The good thing about the application is that you can also send a file via Bluetooth, e-mail, MMS and infrared and the same time have the option of changing the attributes of the files. This feature  include options such as hiding the file by just clicking on the text box near to the file name and recheck it again to revert the action initially done.

However this is a little drawback of the application also. Consider the example when you have put your jpg files in some folder and you have hidden the files, now hiding the files will not only prevent the contents of that folder to be barred from displaying but they also does not show up in the gallery.

Requirements:

•    Symbian S60 3rd edition

Compatible Devices: Nokia 3250, Nokia 5500, Nokia E50, Nokia E60, Nokia E61, Nokia E70, Nokia N71,Nokia N73, Nokia N80, Nokia N91, Nokia N92, Nokia N93, Nokia N95

PhotoFix - Free Photo Editing Application For Nokia Phone

PhotoFix is another Symbian mobile phone application which provides you with the ability of photo manipulation in the sense that you can resize and select the picture quality. Consequently you can easily end up reducing the size of a 500K image to near 70K image without even compromising the clarity to a great extent.According to me the application is intended to target the mobile bloggers or rather photo bloggers. Since the images click by the mobile phone are generally of high resolution and clicked at high picture clarity but the same images are uploaded by them to their blogs which costs them a monstrous GPRS traffic usage bill. The pay as you go GPRS plan will certainly prove very costly if you start uploading 500K pics from your mobile phone.Although, the Symbian mobile phones have inbuilt gallery but there is no feature to crop or resize your images. The solution is PhotoFix, once installed you will get access to a wizard interface which will ease out your work of resizing the images. To begin the process, you need to select the images which you want to manipulate but the glitch here is that you can only select the images by name and not from thumbnail display. Then you need to select the resolution into which you want to transform you image. Once selected you need to select the picture clarity which is personal choice. For me I set it around 70% to faithfully reproduce the image without much of significant losses. To wind up the process, there is a final option of rotating the images which is very useful if you often shoot in portrait orientation. However it was quite evident that the application is RAM hungry and will consume almost the last bit of RAM. So if you have a low RAM Symbian phone, you may have to quite some applications or even restart your mobile phone.Download PhotoFix
