Redneck Hand Grenade

We are in a sort of redneck state of mind today, and what could be more redneck than hand grenades?

Ever wonder what might happen if rednecks were allowed to carry hand grenades? Surely they would carry grenades while hunting, which means that Vice Presidents could do so too.

Eventually we would see a news report that Vice President Dick Cheney blew up a lawyer while quail hunting. Naturally, the lawyer would insist that the explosion was his fault, not the Vice President's.

"It was imprudent of that attorney to have been standing so near that quail when the Vice President was hunting with hand grenades," said the white house spokesman.

At least, if you hunted quail with hand grenades, all of the bird's feathers would be plucked automatically. But so would most of the rest of the bird. Not much bird left to eat at all, actually.

But it's the thrill of the hunt that we really seek. Food gathering qualifies as a mere secondary goal and is not even remotely significant.

And, strangely enough, that is also the mind set of the lads in our first video, which covers this issue quite thoroughly, thank you. Have a look.

*****
One need not be an adult to wear the redneck label. The young lad on the bike in this next video is well on his way to becoming a full blown redneck, if he has not already arrived there.

But the kid was obviously talked into this stunt. He apparently has several accomplices in the remarkably "intelligent" video. There are two photographers on screen right plus the motorcyclist who helped the teen pick up enough speed to enable the loud smack when the biker and the sign violently meet.

You can also hear the muffled snickering in the background after the biker crouches below the sign in a daze.

Gather one highly impressionable teenager with two or three young men who are only slightly older, and, voila!, you suddenly have a teen willing to do just about anything to fit in with the older guys.

*****
It clearly must be James Bond behind the wheel in our last video because this driver is one cool customer as he waits on the train tracks until the last possible moment to accelerate his vehicle out of the train's path. There was not even one second to spare.

If you were able to time the gap between the car leaving the tracks and the train arriving at the intersection, it must be only a fraction of a second. But that is clearly what the videographer wanted.

The near miss is what makes the video worth watching. No one gets worked up about a three second near miss. But a near miss of less than one second will make the video popular all over the Internet.

My guess is the driver is another teenager, and he is probably driving the folks' car. If this kid lives long enough, he may make a terrific movie stunt man. However, if he continues taking chances like this, the kid may well be history before he has an opportunity to grow into any kind of man.

Road Sign Bloopers

Ah, the road sign is an integral part of automotive society. It is generally taken for granted and is usually not the subject of further study--unless, of course, it contains a glaring error. In which case, we all will take enormous delight in wallowing amongst the verbal sludge cast about during the ensuing debate over the merits of our highways' road sign etiquette.

You may have to study these examples somewhat to notice the error of the sign maker's ways. But that merely adds to your pleasure once you discover the gaffe.

Encountering such mistakes is quite rare in this age of digital signage because the sign makers make far fewer errors thanks to their spell checking software.

Perhaps the second sign really has no error but is correctly directing the motorist to the location of the "Keap." If you want to go to the "Keap," turn right.

My guess is that you really cannot get there from here anyway. But the more nagging question is, do you really want to get there?

We will have to leave that debate to a different posting and limit our concern to the more political issue of: if you acquiesce to the sign's command and do keep right, does that brand you as a right wing conservative, or merely label you as prudent? And, is there a difference between the two?

More Paris Hilton Road Construction Humor

One more celebrity at the side of the road-it seems to be pretty busy over there. This time it is Paris Hilton over there and she needs help. But, of course, we all knew that.

Redneck Road Sign

Now that is a prudent use of government funds, that is. Definitely a wise public service announcement. Just think what could occur if an elderly couple picked up the wrong hitchhiker along this stretch of highway. Not all recent parolees have made a vow to go straight, and the wrong parolee could easily ruin your day.

But one really has to be an optimist to pick up a hitchhiker in any event in this modern day. Hitchhikers would generally be considered to be folks who are a little short of funds. And it stands to reason that someone who is down and out may be more apt to bend the law if it suits his purpose simply because he has less to lose. At least that is one school of thought.

Britney Spears Road Construction

Ah! The peripatetic Britney Spears can't stay in any one place for very long. And she is always forgetting to finish dressing. She should keep an extra pair of panties in the glove box for emergencies such as this.

But, of course, where would the publicity be in that? No self-respecting paparazzo would waste film on a pair of panties, not when au naturel is a viable alternative. That candid photo of Brittney's nether region had to fetch at least six figures. I doubt that the Tabloids would even dish out two bits for a panty shot these days.

Of course, the Britney Spears, the Christina Aguileras and the Paris Hiltons of the world realize that skin is in. That is why they show so much of it--because sex sells, and sex makes for much bigger paydays. Although why a billionaire heiress like Paris needs a bigger payday is a bit of a mystery.

Poor Britney earns a mere $70-80 Million per year, and that must be very hard to get by on. Paris' illions, on the other hand begin with a b, not an m, which means that an extra million or two will not really make any significant difference to her.

For Paris, the thrill must be in the chase rather than the pay check, which must make her upcoming incarceration all the less bearable. It is difficult to chase anything when you are locked up 24/7.
