According to BuzzFeed...

Lately, I've done far more than my usual number of quizzes via Facebook. Most of these are through BuzzFeed, but I found them via friends posting their results to Facebook. I've linked to each quiz below. You will be amused to know that:

If I were a famous work of art, I would be "The Scream" by Eduard Munch: "Omg CALM DOWN, STOP FREAKING OUT, everything is seriously honest-to-god going to be okay, there are easy solutions to all your problems, just RELAX. Jesus."

In the "Which New Girl character are you" quiz, I got Nick which didn't surprise me at all (I'm being totally serious here...): "Who wouldn't want a tender-hearted friend like you? You also have problems committing, but once you're all in, you're all in - especially in the love department."

Apparently, if I were a Roald Dahl character, I would be Charlie: "Some may mistake your calm, quiet nature for weakness, but you have them all fooled. If I suddenly woke up as a punk icon, I would be Henry Rollins. Operation Nice February

Something funny happens when we get online and interact with others in a virtual space. We seem to forget that we are interacting with real people. Not being able to see those we are interacting with doesn't make them any less human or vulnerable than if they were standing in front of us. Time and time again I see comments, posts, tweets, etc. that are not only rude but hurtful, even hateful.

I was thrilled when I came across the idea of Operation Nice February on Amy Poehler's Smart Girls Facebook page. This campaign is dedicated to creating an internet where we come together and remember the humanness of the person at the other end of the internet connection.

Here are your Operation Nice February guidelines from Smart Girls:

If we all practiced these guidelines daily, and especially when we feel at our worst, we can make the world a better place. Don't limit your Operation Nice February to just this month though. Realizations and ramblings...

I am tutoring the cutest little 8 year old girl. She is struggling with reading, and it has been a pleasure to see her working hard to improve her skills and to learn to ENJOY to read. Since reading is my favorite activity, this brings such joy to my heart! However, I realized that the combination of my great tutoring skills (not bragging - my families tell me I'm great!) and a motivated student means my job is really to put myself out of business!

Pillsbury peppermint sugar cookie dough smells great, tastes terrible (although my son likes the taste).

Watching cooking clips on Hulu is probably not the best idea when a) I've just cleaned the kitchen, and b) I'm ravenously hungry!

This person makes me smile every single day. I can't believe he's only 9 months away from being a legal driver (assuming he passes his driving exam).

I absolutely love this Ze Frank video from TED.com.  Love, LoVe, LOVE it!  I especially love the song at the end...  Just FYI, if you watch the video, the word "ass" comes up a lot around the four minute mark...as in, "going to kick some..."




In other news, I've posted a few times now about working wayyyyyy too much and not having down time to enjoy my personal hobbies and interests. I've been trying to make a focused effort to have a little bit of time every day for reading which, aside from my family and friends, is what I love more than anything else in life. I LOVE reading. I love reading more than I love the above video, and I really love that video!

A long while back, I had planned to update my reading habits regularly (see THIS post for more on my reading habits). I have failed big time in that regard, but I also haven't been reading as much as I was when I wrote that post. I'm working hard to remedy the situation and get back to serious reading on a daily basis.

Currently, I am reading two books, and I am enjoying both.

• Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell*—This is a Swedish mystery/crime novel and has been turned into both a Swedish television series and a Masterpiece Theater series. The book is fantastic, and I love both television series as well! One of the few book to film adaptations I have enjoyed and that seems to keep the integrity of the written work.
• Where We Belong by Emily Giffin*—This is a sweet story of an adopted young woman who is a bit lost in life and the woman go gave her up for adoption. The story is sweet, tender, and balanced. A bit on the side of chick-lit (ok, totally chick-lit), and I adore it.
