LWC Media Alert - Eyes on Memphis Wednesday morning from 8-9 AM

Yes, your not-so-humble Cracker has been invited to join Lexie Carter and Cheri Delbrocco tomorrow morning on AM 990, KWAM for their weekly show, Eyes on Memphis from 8-9 A.M.  We will be talking about Romney's selection of Paul Ryan for VP and other notable political happenings.

What, you can't get to an AM radio at that time?  What about your computer?  The show will be streamed here, so please find a way to listen in, and call if you want to!  Yeah, I might be groggy, but that's why they make coffee.  Come join us and hang out tomorrow morning!

NOT good news: Mediaverse on hiatus

Richard Thompson, the excellent journalist who observes print and electronic media at Mediaverse, is taking a break until September 30 to determine how to make his site sustainable, and hopefully, financially feasible for the long-term.

I know I'm not the only person in town who is a devout reader of the blog, as Richard provides a great resource for all of us. Go check out his site if you haven't done so (and if you live here, how could you NOT have?).

We're pulling for you, Richard, I will email you to see if I can help.

Welcome back, sir!

Rick Maynard is back at the Freedonian, and he explains why the Writers Guild Strike is important:

We’ve all seen the benefits of good writing vs. bad. I would urge anyone who doesn’t understand the value of good writing to check out the entire run of The West Wing. For the first four and a half years, the show was written almost singlehandedly by a man whose dialogue was so captivating that an episode about the markup of an appropriations bill (“The Stackhouse Filibuster”) was arguably one of the most captivating hours of television ever, with an emotional payoff at the end that was simply beyond the scope of Jack Bauer’s finest hour. When he quit, the next writer on the show was a putz that wrote a two part episode about the president quitting without a vice president and turning the White House over to the Speaker of the House from the other party without anything that had so much as the emotional gravitas of your average infomercial.

SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION

Just a reminder to come out and see me Saturday morning!!!

And I'm even linking to Hollihan!

Your humble Cracker has been invited to speak THIS Saturday at a Dutch Treat Luncheon sponsored by the Main Street Journal. It will be held at The Butcher Shop on Germantown Parkway just south of Walnut Grove from 11:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.

The topic is The Role of New Media (Internet & Blogging) in Memphis Politics, and I will be joined on the panel by Richard Thompson of Mediaverse, Tom Jones of Smart City Memphis, and ABC24/CW30's Cameron Harper.

It looks like a good time will be had by all, so come on out, grab a bite to eat, and listen to a great discussion!

OK, I have a question here..

What the hell took MSNBC so long? It's not like Don Imus and his crew haven't been racist and misogynist all along, at least as long as he has had the IMUS IN THE MORNING program. Truth be told, they have been offensive from the get-go, but since advertisers began to bail a day or so ago, MSNBC got scared and dropped the simulcast of his CBS Radio show (not heard in Memphis).

Even more sickening is all the So-Called Liberal Media people who have gnashed their teeth and wept at the demise of their old racist pal. It's all part of the Kewl Kids mentality of the media and the Beltway folks.

However, what's interesting is who HASN'T rushed to the defense of the washed-up old jock, the one African-American who has been on his show more than anyone, the one person of color who Imus has praised above all others. Come on, you know who I'm talking about, don't you? Here's a hint: he used to be our Congressman.

Yep, Junior Ford has apparently disappeared from the planet while this fiasco has been going on, with no public comments to show on behalf of his old buddy Imus. I wonder why? Come on, Junior, it's not like you haven't milked the I-Man for all he's worth, why not help the man who's helped YOU?

Is it because you're a gutless punk? Oops, I answered my own question.

Look, I have not listened or watched the old burnout on MSNBC for years, partially because I'm not up that early, and partially because I would watch Today or listen to Stern if I was up at that hour. I sure as hell am not defending him, but I am curious to know what the I-Man thinks of the disappearance of his favorite African-American.

Harold? Harold? Anyone? Anyone?

UPDATE: Autoegocrat comments that Junior has spoken, and in typical Junior fashion...
