Here are some interesting things I came across this week.
An ‘empathy gap' divides Americans ahead of the midterms, says PRRI report
I found this idea troubling. Evangelicals believe that empathy can lead people away from their God? If empathy is a problem, where is their moral compass? It explains why the atrocities this regime is committing don't bother them.
One big thing that puts my stomach in knots is the whole ICE thing. Them taking people off the streets. Killing people. Sending people to countries where they are in danger. All of it. (I feel empathy for these people. I didn't understand why others didn't. Well, now I know.)
Anyway, there's a resource for knowing your rights when the skibidi brownshirts are around. My state assembly member sent out some info as they've been kidnapping in my neighborhood. (If you're in California, you can report misconduct by ICE here.)
Also, I was sent a survey since they knew I had returned my ballot. At the end of the survey was a link to the results. I found it interesting. You can find those results here. It asked about a couple ballot measures, but it also asked about possible 2028 presidential candidates. In case you're interested.
And finally, a little video I found interesting:
What are you afraid of?

Thanks for putting these links together, Liz. I can see why the empathy survey stayed on your mind. Interesting that the ballot survey also asked about the 2028 candidates.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they're already trying to game the next election. That's a hard one, though, as some dark horse candidate always seems to emerge late in the game.
DeleteI'm curious about the survey now. I'm still finishing my ballot. I tend to think empathetic people are deeper thinkers, and less selfish - I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons why people have or don't have empathy.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how those numbers change the closer we get to the election. There's still a whole lot of people who haven't voted yet.
DeleteI saw a recent video of a pastor warning about empathy! As for ICE, I see they're in PR now. I wonder if it's Trump's plan to get the residents so upset they do vote to be independent. Then he can say "We're finally rid of that shi*-hole country." I don't know why I don't spell it out, he has no problem using the language! (It has it's problems, but so do the states, and it's a nice place with friendly people. I've been.)
ReplyDeleteI don't think they have any sort of plan. They're just children smashing all the toys because they can.
DeleteIt amazes me. One time a friend, very conservative, who turned whacko right wing, told me if things go wrong, like a big earthquake or something, I would be welcome at their place, since I have survival skills they deem would be helpful and that they would be defending their place and food. I couldn't understand this. I asked "defend against whom?" "Neighbors," she said, without a pause, who are starving, people like that. I thought to myself the first people I'd share with would be my neighbors. I can't imagine thinking of them as the enemy, to be shot, over a tin of tuna.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, when things go sideways, don't we always see people pulling together and helping each other out? There's this idea that it's everyone for themselves, but that's now how humans are wired.
DeleteI found it interesting, if I was reading it correctly, that a majority of people taking the poll were 65 or older and high income earners. But perhaps that's just representative of early voters. I had heard of the empathy situation in headlines but hadn't checked it out yet. Also, re the video, I would agree about the power of fear. Fox News discovered it years ago.
ReplyDeleteI saw a poll somewhere that found that older voters vote earlier. Although, they find that older people vote in higher numbers generally. I'll be interested to check the survey results at the end of the week and see if those numbers have shifted.

Too much time is spent on fear.
DeleteI just don’t understand the Evangelicals in the US. Empathy is understanding, and loving people. How can that lead you AWAY from God?
ReplyDeleteBecause Evangelicalism is a cult. It's about submitting to authority. It's very backwards. At least, from what I understand.
DeleteWe are living in a very sad time
ReplyDeletePeople and the way they think are so different from 30 years ago when I was younger. Empathy is something you don't see a lot of from a lot of people these days. That's very sad.
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed very sad!
