Dan,

CamStudio looks very good. However it does not run on the Mac (without
a windows emulator). I found a forum at CamStudio.org that seems to
suggest free alternatives for the Mac. Look for the author,
brandished, there.

I use Synium's Screenium which cost USD 30 and is adequate. I have
also purchased QuickTime Pro for USD 30, but as yet have not used it
for editing.
