[Jprogramming] Building multiline definitions in code

On the wiki page for JHP, http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/JHP?highlight=%28JHP%29
you have a very sensible example syntax. Other than a few html statements that could be factored out to the annoyance of people other than me, that example is very good in terms of friendly syntax.

On your web site though (down atm), the examples appear as a series of print statements. It wasn't obvious that the content creation step wasn't through those print statements.

going from the wiki example to the multiline println statements was exactly the type of templating I was referring to.

The initial implementation used Linear Representation (5!:5)
for the whole stretch with multiple LFs, but
it was converted into 65 66 10 67 ... 97{a.
which is worse. So println was a compromise.

That's a good point to combine multiple println
into a single print 0 : 0 ... ).
However, it won't work: in order to use the
convenience of control statements in JHP code,
the whole page is a single verb.
This was a desing decision.

If JHP generated code is a set back, look at
transient code generated by ASP.NET.

Note: JHP is still a proof of concept and I was
hoping for constructive feedback, which it is.
Thank you.

The point about Templating is a good one. In fact
the template component should be factored out from
JHP for reusal. It's very powerful and can generate
all kinds of textual representations mingled with
code, XML, HTML for report output, SQL, plain text, etc.

ASP.NET model with custom tags is more powerful, but
requires a pipeline and events and is more involved
in creating the custom controls. I don't think it feasible
for J. PHP uses the same single pass through as classic ASP.

At an Active Scripting web site related to the engine and
ASP host, one of the Microsoft insiders commented on an undocumented
feature of ASP host to emit chunks of multiline text and
the fact that Gen<X> were able to neatly crack and reuse
that feature.
