Could we say that maintaining compatibility with prior versions leads 
development in a "mission creep" tunnel for a product which was a 
rationalization of prior work  to make things better ?

Also, your reference to Raul Rockwell rather than Raul Miller is an 
interesting lapsus, any deep explanations ? ;O)
