Networking Lab Session @ College

Finally, I got a chance to do some hands-on work. But it's only so called hands-on, truth is, there weren't enough equipment for us. So most of us (including me) were just plain standing/sitting around waiting for further instructions. Whatever it was, alas we have practical sessions (even though they are not related to any of our assignments or exams or even final year project - seriously, I don't get the point of it), in college!!!

The dedicated lecturer and diligent student =D
He's explaining what each command means,
and when it should be used

My classmates doing their thing, looking professional techies
(the guy furthest behind isn't doing much,
but he was asked to make an appearance xD)

The lecturer does a demo...

Then, it's the student's turn to do his job
(actually he's just looking at it... but it depends on what is said right?
Hehehehe xD)

Check it out! 1 switch, 3 routers...
"We just might die from radiation" said one of my classmates

Lecturer and student crimping the wires carefully...

This is how the wires were initially arranged...
(I believe it's not the proper the sorting yet)

Check the equipments out!
Cisco stuffs yo!

Another bunch of Cisco stuffs...

Here's a mate who's busy getting the equipments working...
My guess is that he's configuration the IOS and settings...

2600 and 3600 series...
Old stuffs, I hear *shrugs*
But it's new to me! (I haven't "touch" it before)

High end PCs for networking
(Honestly I don't understand why these high end PCs were used,
Quad Cores, 8GB Ram, Good Graphics... For?
I don't recall networking to be so high end *shrugs*
There goes our money)

Nothing's perfect, especially if you're not careful in crimping the wires..
*coughs* this was the BIG GUY's fault *coughs*
Here's a device to show whether or not the both ends of
a straight wire is consistent.
Apparently it's not, see the lights are at different positions?
It means Wire1 and Wire2 are in wrong positions at one of the ends..

When one of the routers are not functioning properly,
we tried checking them out, guess what we saw?
"There's no way to setup ..."
let's read that again...
"There's no way to setup ..."
Ohhh, that clearly explains it!

Then, in the midst of us doing our work,
this is what one of my classmates was "researching" on...
IT MADE ME HUNGRY =(

Other than the equipments, PCs and humans around,
these were the only other stuffs...
=(
My friend said Cisco stuffs suck terribly!!

Then, suddenly!
One of the configuring PC acted on its own...
Well for a high tech institution, their PCs are surely "superb"
I think it's artificial intelligence, where the PC has a mind of its own

I guess it was tired as well (after all, it was like 3 hours of work)
We had no choice, but to stop our operations...
It's disappointing, but to some it was an experience to remember
(Not me though, I couldn't remember anything,
except being hungry most of the time)

Alright so that's all from the networking session!
Hope you enjoyed it! Hehehe,
don't say I didn't bring you on a tour! =P

Here's me giving a falsified "Thumbs up"

Midst of Exams

Yeaps you got that darn right! Right now as I type, I'm in the middle of my end-of-semester exams (some call it finals, I don't really regard it as the Finals, until the next one 'cause that would really be the FINAL ones) with 2 papers down, 2 more to go: 1 in exactly 12 hours and another one more due next Monday. *takes a deep breath and exhale*

It hasn't been easy on me, especially the troublesome night where I had problems sleeping (been waking up on and off in the middle of the night thinking that it's already the next morning, but only to be disappointed by the darkness that surrounds me) and been kinda lost in many ways I can't really describe

Yup, I do know I've been out of touch in many areas, not to mention social networking. I'll try to a come back for it, for the love of God and definitely for myself, I'd made myself so solemn these days that it almost seemed like I was unfriendly at all... I'm friendly, believe me! *big smiles* See! =D Gotta run now, I only brought myself to write this, as a mere reminder to myself that I still have some obligations around *winks*

OpenSuSE Launch Party @ UCTI

Upcoming this Saturday (5th December 2009) is a launching of a new version of linux operating system, the openSuSE 11.2! Well I'm indirectly involved with launching, as I've been promoting about it in college as well. Don't worry, it's an OPEN event, where anyone at all can attend and be part of the event.

I bet the first thing u saw on this poster/flyer is
FREE LUNCH!

not only that, there's gonna be a installation fest,
where free installation can be done unto your laptop (even your PC)
on the day itself, or take home a liveCD to try it out at home.

I'll be there this Saturday, hope to see you there too!

How's College?

College's been pretty boring...
but with a laptop, a camera phone, and decent Internet access...
We could turn things around...
Yes, technology is another life saver!

During one of our classes, a fellow friend has "fallen"
Oh if you don't know, I'm a legend in class too...
Regardless of what class it is, I fall asleep!

Class can sometimes be torturing - mentally, spiritually and psychologically...
How so?
Take the above for example, the lecturer only shows us a glance of it...
Like every few seconds he flips to this page, for a second or two...
And then, he expects us to REMEMBER the diagram so that we will
reproduce it into the exams
Best part is, we don't even have the diagram in any of the notes...
We'd to "ask" him to kindly give us the diagram... (=.=")

And so another comrade "fallen" into slumber too...

You'd be seeing this face in college occasionally ...
Well, cause it's boring, tiring, not to mention that's a weird "weather"
going on (hot, cold, hot, cold), torturing...

in the intense heat, sometimes I wished I had one of these..
to bring along to every class I have, so that I don't need to sweat
while thinking of something "brilliant"...
(like how to get more combos in Bejeweled, LOL)

That way I'd be smiling like this all the time!
This is not a fake smile by the way...
I'd to keep up this smile, so that I'd stay awake most of the time...

No, he's not happy...
If you're part of the class, you'd be able to tell that this is a sarcastic act...
We'd never had thumbs up for anything much in college...
So this doesn't really mark the beginning of anything...
(Pssst, this shot was taken in the middle of the class, if not mistaken...
that shows how attentive the lecturer was)

That's what college life, in my context, is all about.

UCTI's Prom Night @ Crown Plaza Hotel

UCTI Annual Year End Gathering (YEG) aka Prom Night of 2009 was held on the 15th November at the Crown Plaza Hotel. This time around, the theme was Winter Masquerade, where even the setting of the location resembles that of a winter season - cold and bluish environment, with guest dressing up well along with a mask giving a more mysterious feeling of the beholder.

The event crews and performers arrived at the hotel earlier not only to help out with set up, but also to do the final check ups and rehearsal for the evening.

Fellow performers doing soundcheck

as well as psyching up (mental warm ups)

Some needed the spiritual peace before doing anything further

While others were helping out to clean up...
Wouldn't like a messy place, do we?

Then, came Mark who briefed all the performers for the last time...

The goodie bags

And now it's time for last practice...

and so they went on the stage to calibrate their moves alongside
the area of the stage to ensure everything went well...
Others did their sound check,
while some practice their routine for the last time...

Then it was time to get the make ups on and the attires ready...

This is one of the groups ready in their individual's outfit

Then comes show time! Guests starts arriving, and it builds up a crowd in mere moments. The guests registers themselves, and then awaits patiently for the grand doors to open. What awaits them inside is a thrill only to be discovered when the doors are opened. While waiting the guests had their own chit chat with one another, catching moments together and having themselves their own moments of laughter.

Some of 'em are ready for Winter Masquerade...

When the activities for the night are announced and grand doors are slide opened, the smoke and snow-like flakes were released to welcome the guests to the night's Winter Masquerade.

The bluish smoke along with the "snow" flakes were spread all around..

Some cool entrance eh?

For those who were there that night,
you've probably seen this sculpture right outside the ballroom...
It's made of real ice!

Look there's snow!

Ooo look at the lights...

To kick off the eventful night officially, the hosts and hostess reads out welcoming speech to everyone especially the leaders of the UCTI education institution, representatives of APIIT group and the sponsors - Carlo Rino, Fabulous Tea, Borders and MYC. Right after that was the starting performance by the contestants for the Prom King and Queen - ballroom dancing.

The hosts and hostess...

a few of the Prom King & Queen contestants were dancing in couples =)
Spot any cute ones?

Even the VIPs were smiling away...
being happy at the beginning of an event is a good sign...

After the performance, it was time to say "Dinner is served" where 14 different dishes of buffet style awaits the guests. Dinner was accompanied by the smooth strummings and melodious singing by an acoustic group.

Can't miss this, even if it's dinner time!

Love the drinks...
But can't remember what they call them...

The night went on with various performance such as fashion show, dancing, singing, musical performances and talent show. All of them were unique in their ways and were very entertaining. In between the performances, there were short sessions of Q & A for the King&Queen-to-be's. Also there was lucky draw...

And she's the lucky winner for a trip to Langkawi...

Towards the end of the night, the ballroom dance floor was open for a short moment where every one of the guests were invited to dance and join in for the excitement from the beats of the music.

Before the night ended, it was the moment of the truth where the hosts and hostess announced the official Mister and Miss Confidence, Prom Prince and Princess, and Prom King and Queen that was voted by the crowd earlier. A huge and loud applause could be heard from outside the ballroom itself signifying the agreement of the crowd.

Alas, it came to the end of the night, where the dance floor was once again opened to the everyone. Everyone had a great time. One of the guests stated, "This night was truly magical" and another saying, "Everything was beautiful, the people, the performances and the night itself was unbelievable *laughs*"

And folks, that is all from the UCTI's YEG 2009. Jeffro signing off.
