We started Humanflipbook in 2017, two months after Margaret and I were cut from the same Burbank storyboard room. We had a single lightbox, a stack of Bristol paper, and a quiet conviction that the motion industry had started to feel like a slot machine.
Eight years later, we are fourteen animators, illustrators, and producers working out of a 4,200-square-foot studio in Williamsburg. We run sixteen Cintiq stations and an in-house lightbox suite. We do not subcontract. We do not use offshore overflow. We do not, under any circumstance, generate keyframes with a machine.
In 2021 we became the first North American studio to publish a Human-Only Animation Charter — a single page, signed by every full-time member of the team, that prohibits AI-generated keyframes in anything we deliver to a client. It is not a marketing line. It is the reason we sleep at night, and it is the reason our clients come back: 92% of them, on a rolling 24-month basis, according to the transparency report we publish every January.
