I have been hearing about this really nasty
staph infection for a few days now. I was thinking about how prepared we really are for an outbreak. The building I work in is very old and moldy. I wonder what our poor ventillation and mold would do for an outbreak like this.

Yikes. That's the last thing we need.
This superbug has been arround since the early 70's in hospitals. It possobly came from India where you could buy antibolics over the counter without a doctors order. It has been in hospitals for since 74 and can be a killer or a chronic disease depending on the site. It came from a common skin infection that was not dangerous. MRSA is now in some of the schools(I'm supprised it took so long).
Worse is the multiresistent TB and Extreme resistent TB. Normal TB takes a year of treatment and you can not drink ETOH when on it, So the side row people didnot stay on their meds forming multi-resistent TB then we hve X Resistent TB the only treatment is surgery. TB is air born and passed from fresh droplets cough out from the infected person.
So take care using antibolics you will comtrubite to the formation of multi-resistent bacteria.
As my Mom knows, I will not take meds of any kind unless I absolutely have to take them. When I was very young I had Strep a lot. Some years I missed about 4 weeks of school. My strep became resistent to the Penicillan the doctors kept giving me. Eventually I had my tonsils and adnoids removed. I didn't have strep again until about 5 years ago. Of course I thought it was totally unfair for me to get strep when I didn't have tonsils. Of well.
Wash your hands a lot, and I mean A LOT.
It doesn't hurt to keep hand sanitizing wipes close by and use them often.
I also think it's good to use sanitizing wipes (Lysol, Clorax . . .) on door knobs or any surfaces people touch a lot.
I'm not a nurse, but my understanding is that this will cut your risk of exposure.
You are absolutely right WD.
I thought this article was interesting.
Wow. I really would like to avoid that superbug. I'm washing my hands a lot at school and at home. It's really scary, though.
