Dropzone Vampires!

I'm slowly building a Scourge force.  It's not taking me as much time as my PHR because the paint scheme is much easier and mostly air-brush-based.  I've had these little beauties in my paint queu for a looooong time.  Mostly because they were a horrible unit on the table.  Now?  They are pretty damned good!

by Novus

Been quite awhile between posts for me. Mostly due to my new laser cutter and working on getting some new products out there for you guys. More on that at the end of the post.

Fast Mover Tactica - How I Use My Athena

by Novus

I know the overall meta for Dropzone Commander generally eschews the use of Fast Movers (FMs) in tournament play, but I think an FM, or two, can be essential to winning.

Tutorial: Sculpting Green Stuff Chains

TJ here with a tutorial on making 3D Green Stuff chains from Dark Future Games. This tutorial was created by DFG author and sculptor Chris Vinton, but I cleaned it up and posted it here to get it out there in hopes that it helps others!

Dreadclaw from a Drop Pod Conversion Revised

TJ AKA Old School Terminator here from Dark Future Games to talk about converting Dreadclaws for your Chaos or you 30k army using just a single drop pod kit (technically less than the whole kit). I really dig the fact that using units like the Dreadclaw is becoming more widely accepted. Playing with these units shouldn't break a player's budget and it also shouldn't force them to resort to using the dreaded Pepsi Bottle Proxy. I want to revisit this tutorial, brush up the explanations and help distribute it to a whole other generation of players. Let's take a look.

Quick Tip - Moving Decals

by Novus

I've started using decals on my PHR force because I needed a better way to differentiate my Triton A1's from the A2's during the game.  So, I decided to add some unit markings using some GW decals I had laying around.  I liked how the first effort turned out (above) which then lead to me wanting to add the black diamond and skull to all of my units.

Fixing My Camera Part 2: The Battery Door

It was a simple failure.  A tiny tab of plastic.  A tiny, but vital, contour on a critical component of this complex and arcane device... the Coolpix L22 digital camera.

Guest How To: Immersion Tank Effect

by Strigis Nox

Strigis Nox sent me some photos of his crazy Helbrute kitbash and I asked if he would please-please-please write up how he did the amazing immersion tank effect for the occupant.  Here is how he did it...

Fixing Major Structural Bubbles the Easy Way

by Novus

The Dropzone Commander resin models are freaking amazing!  But, occasionally you get one or two models with a bubble on a section of model that is pointed or peaked.  Here's how I fix this issue quickly and easily.

MonkeyChucka's Amazing Malanthrope!

This morning we have a re-post of a couple of posts by Monkey Chucka over at the Chucking Monkeys blog.  This is an extremely impressive conversion and paint job... don't miss it!

Whilst attending a Warhammer 40k tournament recently, a friend walked up to me and said, "I've got something which I think you'll like".  He held up what looked like a small, perspex box.

40k Terrain - Mechanical Warhorse Comms Tower

by Novus

I got hold of a Mechanical Warhorse Communication Tower kit at the BAO 2014 and, like nearly all my other hobby projects, got to it long after the fact.  It's an excellent laser cut kit at a very reasonable price.  Paints up really nice, too!

DzC: PHR Sirens - And How I Based Them

by Novus

It's a mad dash to get my army done for the BAO Dropzone Commander tournament.  I have roughly 10 days to complete my army!  I'm in a groove, so I think I'll pull it off.  It'll be close, though!

DzC: PHR Tritons - Now With Tutorials!

by Novus

I've finally gotten around to painting my PHR stuff.  I figured since I'll be doing demos of the game at the BAO on Saturday and playing in the tournament on Sunday, I should probably not show up with a bare army.  I'm pretty sure I won't get everything painted in time, but I'll sure as Hell try!

Painting Table Top Quality Figs - Video Tutorial

Guest Post by Thor

Thor over at Creative Twilight has made this great video tutorial of his process for quickly and effectively painting figures to a table top quality standard.  It's a fast and simple and gets the job done very well... a great way to get your figs painted ASAP!  Give it a look.

Go give his blog a look, too!  There are some great posts.  Hopefully, in the near future Thor will be giving us some more of his hobby wisdom.  Thanks, Thor!

How To Make Crushable Coke Cans

Guest Post by Rusty Robot

As hoped, Rusty Robot is sharing a simple technique for modeling crushed beverage cans!  In the test image of his latest diorama above, you can see one in the background.  These little cans can make a base or terrain piece really pop with detail.

Sculpting: A Yummy Marine In A Giant Stomach

by Novus

You can see my latest WIP above, a flying Mantis companion for my previous Helbug kitbash.  In putting this conversion together, I figured out a way to make very smooth sheets of Green Stuff (GS).  That's what is covering that stomach-looking thing with the bulges you see below.

Super Easy Scatter Terrain: Barrels

by Novus

To me, terrain is just as fun to make as the models.  Like the table top models we so lovingly put together and paint, the quality of the terrain we play on adds tremendously to the quality of the game experience.
