My graphic went bonker

Goodbye ATI, hello nVidia!
Bye ATI and Hi nVidia

After having so many issue with my PC, which caused the BSOD and such, I am quite determined that this is due to my graphic card.

Thanks to my two buddies who mentioned that my graphic card ram might be causing the main problem, and I also saw on the BSOD message that it did stated display driver etc...

Today, I went to Ban Leong and had my card check. I was hoping for one to one exchange until the nice CSO told me that it only happen for card that is not more than a year. Apparently, my card was bought on the year of 2010 Oct, so there's no chance at all.

However, I was given a choice to send this card for RMA, which is located in Taiwan. Most probably the waiting time will be 4 weeks to 6 weeks!

Oh dear, I said. I need it for work! But there's nothing they can do because there's no stock for them as well.

Taking a deep breathe and I agreed upon sending for RMA, and what they counter offer me is to rent me a card. And the CSO said that, the card is not the top notch and not suitable for doing any production stuff. Hence the new graphic card kicks in.

I definitely will sell it off once it is back in Singapore.

So, my wife and I went to Sim Lim Square. According and swear by many, we went to PC Theme and found out that, most of the card that I wanted are either too low spect than my current ATI 6870 by Powercolor, or out of stock.

Hesitating for a long time, I decided on Palit GTX 670 by nVidia. Reason being: GTX670 is consider an upgrade from my 6870, and GTX560 are consider on par or slightly below than the ATI I am holding on. The price isn't too nice either. I got it at $568 for it.

Looks pretty good

Asus and MSI GTX670 had went out of stock for 670 series, and the only left is by Palit.

ATI is definitely out for me. Accordance to the guy at Ban Leong, he said that all ATI do have issue with the error message popping out on driver had since stopped working had responded (IIRC)

Furthermore, I am quite a fans of nVidia since back then, and this time round, it is my second bad experience with that manufacturer.

Right now, I am running this graphic card, and it should looks and feel good too.

Nevertheless...

It is not easy to be in this line of job. There are a lot of checking, ensuring and guiding at the same time.

In the past, it is purely editing using on computer. For now, it is looking at drawing most of the time. The percentage of using the computer had been kept to the minimal.

Nevertheless, time is the most crucial of all; and I have to stay strong.

That is for sure and I am really hoping for more good things to happen soon.  really...

So many things to check...
So many things to check

My fiber!

It's here! After waiting for 1-2 weeks, it is finally here.
I gotta thanks the installers who did a great job from linking the modem all the way to my room! The trunking and LAN connection.

They also help to mount the ONT device onto the wall instead, because the fiber cable is not allow to bend 90 degree as it will break.

These cannot be place on table because of my daughter, who might be interested with the lights blinking non stop!

ONT And Fiber Point
ONT

2Wire Modem From Singtel
2Wire box

I tested the speed and it is lovely at 51mbps with 20+mbps for DL and UL respectively.
For overseas, it is range from 30 - 20mbps DL, depending on the period.

The top up of $8 mthly for this fiber is worth it. I had my house analog phone line changed to MIO Voice, thus the system must run 24hrs 7 days. That also mean, I do not need to pay the phone bills at all. Every 3 months, I have to pay $20 odd for the subscription, adding on the mthly usage, I think it will be more than $8.

Of course, the modem does not come free. It cost $128, either by full cash or installment.
I rather get the new technology device along with the fiber, lest of certain issue that might not work 100% well. Anyway, time for a change too.

Love it!

Introducing my new casing... CM 690II advanced

I am truly happy about the new casing I had recently.

Presenting you ...

CM 690II Advanced

Ok, if you want more information about this casing, do Google it because there are tons of review out there.

Therefore, I'm talking about the other review which I think it is not yet been covered.

There's something about this casing that I really love at: cable management and the way your HDD is been placed.

Look at the photo below, on the right, where my HDDs are located at.
Instead of having the HDD backside facing the motherboard, it is designed to allow it to face on the right side of the casing. Which, we seldom open it.

Bear in mind, this is the first time I purchased such an expensive casing, in the past, I only get those 60-70 bucks range.
CM 690II advanced
Internal look of the system

All in all, by looking at this way, don't you find the whole system look even neater?
I had not installed the second fan at the HDD area where the word 'Gigabye' is at. (There's hole for you to install the fan)
CM 690II advanced
Neat board with harddisk

Looking at the right side of the PC, this is what you find.
Cable management is important, this is to make your whole PC neater and of course, some interference to others.
CM 690II advanced
Right view of the casing. HDD area

Yes, all my SATA cables and power plugs are not attached to the HDD yet because I am going to format my C drive. I am not going to risk again by formatting the wrong drive ever again.

Something that I really love Corsair PSU. 1 power cable connected to the PSU, allows me to plug in all 4 HDDs at one go. Neater as well.
And best yet, you only plug in the cable that you need to the PSU instead of having too many cables slot to one corner which make it even uglier.
CM 690II advanced

Is it neat enough for you?
Love the new casing indeed!

Dock for Mac! Awesome!

via cNet Asia

Speechless!
All Hails!!! Quick! You have to!!! Only IF you are a true Mac lover. *kidding*
Presenting you ...

Henge Dock

We used to have HDD dock whereby we can have the data, movies, songs and another other information on any PC, anywhere.
But this time,Henge Dockshow you the power of Mac Dock.

What can you use for?

Simple!

Not a lot of people like the small screen of 13.3", so they have a DVI output to the LCD TV or a bigger screen for doing works, photoshop, movies or just plain surfing net. It's just seem cool having the wide big screen in front of you when playing any facebook games.

Just like me, the marvelous book game is Social City that I have been hooked for weeks.Yah yah... I mentioned before of not playing any facebook games again... but well.... sometime... and....

Oh dear.. I think it is getting out of topic! Ha!Ok, so for this... Dock.

Apparently, all you need is the dock from Henge Dock. Place your Macbook upright and put it down into the slot. This is what you need to do only.

All cables will go under the dock and have the head expose so that your Macbook and the jacks will match properly.
You can even select what cables you need! Customise it!

Isn't that cool?

Time to blog!

Yes! I finally have the time to sit down and BLOG! Here's some of the things to share. Remember I mentioned about our car been kissed onto the wall? I guessed that the car is horny, that's why I behave like a pet! Just wanted to moan onto something!

Ok... just joking....

Well... these are the images... have a look..

Wifey helped me wrote an appeal letter to HDB and hoping they can waive off the fine that I had just received recently.

Finger crossing....

I had to bring my USB HDD dock with the HDD, the one ADRC returned me after transferring, and my WD ext HDD to work yesterday! This is because of the error I gotten previously! I did some testing like having the folder opened from these 2 HDD and even tried on my internal HDD to see which one cause the error to pop up. Initially, I thought faulty lies on WD HDD but I was wrong until test it at work.

It was 100% fine while transferring my files/folders to WD HDD! William suspecting that the main cause could be Samsung PC Suite program, which is famous for been buggy. That's what he told me. Surprisingly, my WD ext HDD works fine without the error pop up after uninstalling that program! I have to monitor it for few days.

I did some Google check that such error is because of program conflicting. Hoping everything clear up!

I am really happy to have most of the photos transferred. As there are too many of them, it will take me almost a day to rearrange it. Out of 100%, about 5-10% of the photos were gone for sure. I am still thinking if I should ask ADRC if there's anyway to get them back. I am lucky that most of Cait photos are back alive! At the same time, for those that are gone for sure, I can always go back to flickr and get them download to my HDD!

Recently I had been a little boring and thought some stuff to play around. All thanks to my intern, Jared, who gave me such idea. HAHAHA...

So... what is it?
Simple! It is acronym!
And... what is it so fun about?

I often see T G I F and thought that why must it be just Friday and not the rest of the days? Are they left alone or what? C'mom... let's have fun instead. I have yet to think of Thursday acronym. Let's look at the past few days I created and ask my coll/ friends to think on both my Tweeter and Facebook.

It's back! I got to pay even more!

I would like to thanks XiuHan and Felix from ADRC who helped me through! I had not check the entire photos yet because I have function to run later. At the meantime, I tried copy the files to another HDD for rearranging and I gotten something real weird!

Everything is fine until I tried to copy my files!

Microsoft-Visual-C++-Run-Time-Error
Damn it. WHY! I gotten this when I copy the files over!

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\windows\explorer.exe

This application had requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team of more information.

William told me my Window is quite unstable. So, should I reformat again? I also gotten Boot.ini lost as well. I read about how to fix it but there's nothing much I can do as well.

Bill from ADRC

Paid $813.20 in cash.
Gonna eat grass for next month already.

At the same time, I also gotten wonderful ticket from warden earlier on! I am going to write an appearl letter for the reason I parked downstair. I had to come up to the house and help out with baby items because my mom do not have extra hand to carry the items. She also have difficulty walking for long distance, hence I park to the nearest staircase. Hoping they can waive it off.

I did not get anything from lottery, but yet I kept having my money rolling out! Sigh!

I need to go and pray sincerely this time!

HDD sent in

It took me just less then 20min to get the things done up.

Nice staff from ADRC, Xiu Han, who guided me through the procedure. I have to go down one more time when the evaluation is done. This is because I have to browse through if that is the stuff I want to retrieve.

Only then, they will inform me about the pricing. As told by the girl, usually it will be less then a thousand because there's special discocomputerunt for home user. Thanks God.

Evaluation will take about 1 to 3 days. Hope to hear from them soon.

At the same time, I can check up the status via their site.

ADRC trip later

I will be dropping by ADRC (Adroit Data Recovery Center) later as I will be taking 1/2 day off. According to Felix from ADRC, whom emailed me on Sunday, stating that partial recovery is expected. Cost range from $500 to $700.

Remember I mentioned about the issue that I cannot retrieve anything except the Window using their program?

By right, which Felix said, it should be able to. But they have to do a full recovery first.

I am hoping that most of the data can be recover. Because, new data written on HDD sector after formatting might have overwrite the old data. What I know of is that writing data on HDD sector is by randomly.

Since the incident happened, I decided to upload full size photos to my flickr account instead. It will take longer time because of the photo size.

Counted myself lucky that I never format the SD card from my camera since 4th July.

Shall not say so much, I'll let the result tell me when it is out.
