Some Hawaiian Dick Pages

I'm in the process of working on a story for B. Clay Moore's Hawaiian Dick. If you're unfamiliar with the book, check it out here. It's one of my favorite titles going and contributing to the series has been a blast for me.

Gentlemen, The King! part 2

Here's another image from the Gentlemen, The King! pitch.

Also, be sure to check out Comic Twart, a collective art blog that I'm participating in. The project had its origin via Twitter, and that's where the name came from: TWitter ART. So get your mind out of the gutter.

Every week, Comic Twart will focus on a character and each of us will draw that character. This week's star is Zorro!

I'm humbled and flattered to be a part of it, but I'll still be posting a bunch of stuff here, of course.

Gentlemen, The King!

My lawyer represents the Damon Runyon estate and asked me to work up a couple of pages of samples for a pitch for Runyon's story, Gentlemen, The King! Here's the first page.

The scene takes place in jail(s), but for the purpose of the pitch, the characters' faces have to be visible, so when Jason has time to color this up, I'll have him drop cast shadows of prison bars across the faces.

More Para Project, More Inking!

By now, you know the drill: Fed (I think that's the penciller's name) does some really nice work, and I try my hardest not to screw it up!

Lather, rinse, repeat!

Some More Para Project Inks

Some more inks from the Para Project. The fun thing about inking someone with a totally different style than you, is that you step outside your own process and get glimpses into other ways to solve artist problems.

Fun and educational!

Inks: Para Project

I've been inking some pages for my pal Mike Heffron's forthcoming OGN, The Para Project, coming in 2010 from Lawdog Comics. Here's a example of the pencils (not sure of who the penciller is) and my inks.

Canterville Ghost...again!

Here's another snippet from The Canterville Ghost. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Jason colors this one!

Zorro!

Another sample. With the Canterville Ghost wrapping up in a month or so, I'm scrambling to make sure that I can still pay bills. Here's the latest in a series of samples.

Green Hornet Sample Piece (color)

And here's how the Green Hornet piece looks all colored up, courtesy of the ever-brilliant Jason Millet.

Green Hornet Sample Piece (Inks)

A while back, I learned that Dynamite Entertainment had gotten the Green Hornet license and whipped this piece up. It incorporates the 1930s version of the character and the 1960s version. Looking at the material they've released so far, I'm not sure that the book will be a period piece (which is how I'd ideally like to see it done), but that doesn't diminish my desire to draw it a bit!

I have no idea if they're even interested in me, though.

But I'd still love to do it.

Commisson: The Rocketeer

I have more commissions to post; I've just been swamped with deadlines!

Today's offering of inked adventure is one of my favorite comics characters, The Rocketeer. By my count I've done more commissions of than another character, other than my own.

Another piece for a friend, this time out it's for Chris Neseman of Around Comics and 11 O'Clock Comics. If you like comics, give both shows a listen.

Return of the Canterville Color

People went on lots of carriage rides back then.

Lots.

To be honest, I'm pretty unhappy with the line art on this page (it happens...sadly), but Jason saved the day with his colors.

I have a boatload of new pages and drawings to scan, but will continue with the colors through the weekend, I think. Next week, we'll see some new b/w work.

More Canterville Color

Continuing to spotlight Jason's terrific color work over my pencils & inks.

This scene leads up to an appearance of the ghost.

Some more Canterville—this time in color

I haven't posted any of Jason's amazing color work from The Canterville Ghost for a while. I think I'll rectify that over the next few days...

I used a lot of loose drybrush on this page and I think Jason did a great job of adding color without overpowering the line art.

The Canterville Ghost: More Conversations with Dead People

Another Canterville Ghost page, from the sequence I posted earlier this week. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Jason does with the colors on this scene.

Some Canterville Ghost stuff

More plugging away on The Canterville Ghost. Sometimes, conversation scenes can just be a blast!

Some More Canterville Ghost—Now in Color!

Okay, first of all, I may not have hit my goal of updating every day (or even every weekday), but 2008 has shown significant improvement in the regularity of my blogging updates. It's certainly been more consistent than how I've handled email and phone calls. What can I say? My schedule regularly kicks my ass.

But everything will improve even more in 2009. Hopefully.

I'm very excited about the color piece in today's update. Jason Millet continues to kick ass on all of our collaborations, and this page is no exception.

I showed a step-by-step development of this Canterville Ghost page, from rough sketch to pencils to inks. Now, Jason's color page completes the process (the publisher will be handlingLink the letters, so you'll have to buy the book if you want to see that stage).

The Ghost Sneaks Around

Is that a ghost? Look out--he's got a gun!

This book is turning out to be a blast!
